Chapter Text
-Beep….beep….beep..-
The beeping of hospital monitors was the first thing she heard as she regained consciousness, her eyes slowly opening.
Where was she? Who was she?
‘Sirin.’
That was her name.
‘Herrscher of the void’
That was….had been...her title.
But her chest felt empty….where was her core?
She tried to focus on her memories, and slowly things started to come back to her.
Those vile humans… who lied and hurt her, took Bella from her!
She tried to sit up, but pain coursed through her. Looking down, her vision still blurry, she realized most of her body was bandaged up, and her arm…
Her left arm was missing… right….that bastard cut it off and then-
… How was she alive?
Just then, the door to the small room opened, and a nurse stepped inside, surprised to see Sirin awake.
“Ah! You're awake!” The nurse went over to Sirin, gently sitting down in a chair next to the bed on which Sirin was lying.
“You've been out cold for a …very long time. You seem to be still in a lot of pain…” The nurse commented as she saw the tension in Sirin’s body.
“We already gave you some painkillers, but I'm sure if the pain is too much, we can give you some more…?”
“H-how long..?” Sirin managed to stutter out over her pain.
“10 years. We almost gave up on you, not going to lie.” The nurse sighed.
Sirin took a moment to process….10 years…10…10 YEARS?! Sirin was flabbergasted. Looking around, she finally fully realized she was in a hospital, if that hadn't been obvious. She honestly didn't want to be here…not with more needles and injections…even if these ones were supposed to help her…
Sirin slowly tried to get up.
“H-HEY!! Kid, you can't just get up!! Sit back down! You might hurt yourself!!” The nurse quickly tried to grab Sirin’s arm, but Sirin flinched back and, with the little energy she had, started running out the door, though limping and weak.
It didn't take long for security to try and stop her, but Sirin wouldn't give up and managed to, by some miracle, get out of the hospital without being followed.
2010…
That's the year? 10 years…. Sirin still couldn't believe it, passing by a shop and seeing that date on a calendar near the window. The cold of the winter weather was making her body tremble in the mere hospital garments she was wearing.
She walked past a clothing store… and paused.
“Better than nothing.” She mumbled to herself as she walked inside, grabbed a coat, and ran, the angry shop owner yelling at her.
How no cops were called was a mystery to Sirin, but she'd take it. She walked through the snow, now a bit less on the brink of freezing.
She didn't want to be anywhere near these humans if you asked her.
So she ended up walking into the forest, finding some peace and quiet at last.
Until she kept walking and heard a thud.
Peeking her head around a tree, she saw a…child?
But the kid was struggling, carrying a large backpack, too large for a child to even be supposed to carry.
Sirin was about to turn away, this wasn't really her problem after all. But she then felt something familiar… but how?
Don't tell her this child somehow had HER core inside its body?
Sirin gritted her teeth.
Well, might as well be a blessing in disguise, she could just take back the core and-
But a flicker of recognition flared in her eyes… this…kid.
She thought back to that woman. The one who had lied to her….and yet…been so kind…
This….was her daughter… at least from what Sirin could remember from that….dream…
God Damit!! Why did that woman's daughter have HER core?! And why was that kid here?! ALONE?!
The kid stood up and looked towards Sirin, She wasn't dumb enough not to notice the taller girl staring at her after all, Sirin wasn't really hiding much.
“What are you staring at?! Don't tell me you're one of those Valkyries-” The kid grabbed a bat from her backpack; she was barely able to lift it properly, but it seemed she knew how to use it.
Sirin immediately retorted, “Heck no!! I'm not affiliated with them, but what's a child like you doing here?” a bit angry at even being thought to have been one of those idiots.
“Important business! None of yours ofc :P!” The kid scoffed.
Sirin rolled her eyes. “What's your name?”
“Kiana!” The kid smiled proudly, almost falling over again.
Sirin caught Kiana in time. “Right… Kiana. Alright, maybe don't fall over?”
“I'm a great walker!! Just you see!”
“Uh huh.”
“Believe me!!”
Sirin simply sighed, “Look here, I'm not here to cause harm to you, so, how about I help you out, hm?”
“Hm…… I don't know! Dad told me not to trust anyone!”
“And where might your ‘dad’ be now?” Sirin tried to hold back a bit of spite that tried to make its way into her tone, knowing Kiana’s dad was that…bastard.
“Uhm…” Kiana paused, “H-he's off doing important stuff!”
“Uh huh, you sure he didn't abandon you, kid?”
“N-NO HE DIDN'T!!!” Kiana pouted.
Sirin sighed, “My offer still stands.”
“Fine!”
And so Sirin grabbed Kiana’s backpack gently, though she was still weak herself, at least she could carry it better than this child.
‘This is a…temporary alliance,’ Sirin told herself. She'd help the kid for a bit, gain her trust, and make sure she doesn't die. And once Kiana turns her back enough, she’ll just grab the core…not too hard, right?
