A brilliant burst of light blinded her, and she felt her body burning up in the microseconds it took for the energy wave to hit her. Time seemed to slow to a crawl. She wondered if her death would be painful. She hoped not; she thought she deserved a little more than that, after all that she'd sacrificed.
She smiled as it all went dark.
