Chapter Text
“How lonnnnng have we been walkkkkinnng?!” Kiana whined. The 11-year-old old slumping a bit as they walked.
“2 weeks. And it's gonna be a lot longer if you don't stop complaining and actually pick up the pace.” Sirin huffed. Kiana had been whining for … a while.
“But I'm so hungryyyy you can't expect me to go on like this!!” Kiana stomped a foot.
“You want to find your dad, no?” Sirin glanced at Kiana sharply
Kiana whipped her head up again, trying to put on a grin.
“....you’re mean…but yeah, I do. I can hold on!! Hunger can't beat the might of Kiana Kaslana!!”
Sirin only rolled her eyes. “Sure, we should stock up soon, though, you aren't wrong about that. Though let's not get more than necessary.”
Kiana only stuck her tongue out slightly.
“Childish.” Sirin huffed.
“Meanie!” Kiana retorted.
“Idiot.” Sirin’s glare narrowed.
“Cruel!” Kiana stuck her tongue out once more.
“OK, THAT'S IT-” Sirin grabbed Kiana’s wrist with her working arm, which kiana reacted to by immediately slapping her. Sirin only glared harder. "Listen. We’re gonna get supplies, and you will stay silent unless you want us to be noticed.”
“Pff. fine…”
Sirin let go of Kiana’s wrist, turning around again, the backpack loosely hanging on her back, unable to fully properly hook onto the stub where her other arm once was.
After a bit more walking, they managed to reach a small town.
They were forced to leave the backpack in a big bush, as dragging it into town would get attention. So now they quietly walked the streets, and kiana stayed surprisingly silent.
Sirin only relaxed ever so slightly at that, at least no more yapping.
Sirin’s eyes closed in on some bakeries and other good shops.
“Hey, Celine?” Kiana looked at Sirin after looking into the distance for a second.
“Hm?” Sirin raised an eyebrow.
“How exactly are we gonna get supplies…? We don't really have money.”
“Stealing.”
“H-HUH! I- cmon I mean that's kinda bad!”
“Its survival.”
“A-” Kiana couldn't really argue…
“See?”
“Mhhhhhhh whatever!!” Kiana crossed her arms before her eyes drifted to the horizon again. “Do you think they’re still chasing us?”
“Schicksal? Probably.” Sirin hated that thought herself, the fact that these valkyries are probably still after the kid.
“Mh…we should be quick then, I guess.”
Sirin stopped in her next step, looking back at Kiana.
“Do you know how to steal?”
“Uh- trust me, I got this!”
Less than a minute later, they were hiding after getting chased by a angry store owner.
Sirin slowly turned towards Kiana.
“....remind me to never let you be ‘stealthy’.”
Kiana let out an offended gasp, “I DID WELL, I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW!”
Sirin rolled her eyes, for probably the 100th time these 2 weeks. At least they managed to get away… and secure some food.
“Let's…keep going.”
Kiana perked up, “But don't we have like... not a lot of resources yet?”
“I hardly think we’re gonna get more from the ruckus we just caused.” Sirin mentally face-palmed.
“...fair,” Kiana mumbled, getting up.
Sirin went back to the bush where they had hidden the backpack, her strides slow and cautious of anyone who might be around. Kiana wasn't far behind, carrying 2 loaves of bread, but seemingly still feeling awkward. Sirin wasn't dumb; she was able to notice Kiana staring at the stub that used to be her left arm for quite some time now.
“Stop staring,” Sirin murmured without turning to face Kiana.
“E-eh I'm not?!” Kiana tried to protest. “But… i am…curious.”
“Ok. Stay curious.”
“Meanie.”
“Dumbass.”
“HEY-”
“Keep moving.”
