The first time it happened he would swear up and down that it was an accident. He would go so far as to say that all the times thereafter had also been accidents. Hermes knew that his word didn’t hold much ground, being a reputable liar and all, but he was willing to swear under oath that everything had happened out of pure dumb luck and coincidences.
Never say that the god of liars is immune to his own bullshit.
Or, 4 times Hermes accidentally saw Charon without his robes, and 1 time he took them off himself

Hermes has been chosen to marry Charon, Nyx’s eldest; whose bestial form is but one of the secrets tainting this union.

Summary
Flowing from Styx to Phlegethon to Lethe. Snaking around the bends of Asphodel deep into the quiet of Elysium under the bridges of the Temple. Across lazy waters and over roaring white water. The occasional waterfall here and there. Whatever twists and turns Styx had in store for Charon he endured with the same practised ease as breathing.
Despite being the ferryman to the dead, with his rules and rigidity, Charon was flexible. Fluid and adaptable like the river he traveled down. Having undergone numerous changes in leadership and the overhaul structure of the underworld itself, still Charon stood as permanent of a fixture as life and death.
There was little difference that would change Charon's overall nature.
Well. Maybe one thing.

The one he carefully hadn’t worn when they sat on a park bench, fingers loosely linked together, and decided gently, sadly, that this wasn’t going to work.

He and Thanatos had argued about it plenty of times recently. Zagreus had hoped they'd moved past it. Thanatos had even been helping him, in that careful and secret way of his. Yet despite that, Zagreus can't help feeling that there's some obstacle that he hasn't been able to overcome ― some barrier that stands between them.
"What makes you say that?" Achilles asks.
Zagreus shrugs halfheartedly. "Maybe it's nothing. It's just..."
His brain fixates on Thanatos's hands, the way that they've flitted near and around him ― as tentative and nervous as a butterfly ― yet they've never landed.
"He hasn't touched me," Zagreus says. "Not once. Not since I started trying to escape this place."

Charon paused in surprise, the hand that had been running through Hermes’ hair freezing in place. It wasn’t the sentiment that surprised him. Through the years, Hermes had often spoken of his mother, occasionally lamenting that Charon would never be able to meet her, trapped in the stars as she was. There had always been a hint of sadness, or longing - but never had it sounded so sorrowful. Miserable, even.
Charon pulled back - as much as he could when their naked bodies were all but melded together, curled tight to one another amongst the dark sheets of Charon’s bed - and tilted his head down to look at his lover. Hermes made no move to do the same. With a soft huff, Charon pressed a long, pale finger under Hermes’ chin, turning up his face for Charon to see. Tears glistened in his dark eyes, some caught in dewdrops on his eyelashes, others sliding down his tanned cheeks. Despite them, he laughed.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into me so suddenly,” He said, reaching up the hand wedged between their chests to rub at his eyes. “I apologize, I’ve ruined a perfectly good romantic mood.”

Summary
Achilles cannot imagine what this prince from the surface might be like. Raised by Demeter! A young god with his father’s wrath and his mother’s impetuousness, fuelled by his grandmother’s calculated spite. He thinks of the swathes of dead that disembark Charon’s ferry still shivering and huddled together as though their shades could hold warmth.
Perhaps the Zagreus who has grown up with cold eternal is as icy and cruel as Demeter herself. Perhaps he will bring nothing but strife. Olympian history is full of sons overthrowing their fathers, after all.

The man’s eyes finally lock on to his target and he grins, feral and predatory. He raises his hand… and points. Directly at Charon.

Chronic shut-in Charon is dragged to a concert by his twin brothers, where by happenstance a kind beautiful stranger bursts into his life. Charon would be content to scuttle back to his quiet house and forget the whole evening, but this determined acquaintance won't let him go so easily.

Summary
Gods can tell when something supernatural is near. It is palpable, an almost solid weight in the atmosphere. When nearing Olympus, the thin mountain air becomes thick and heavy with divinity, pouring out over every gilded surface, glinting in the sunlight. Hermes knows what power feels like unencumbered and free flowing. How it sparks out of the fingertips of heroes, and settles softly like dewdrops in the hair of nymphs.
This? This was different.

Hermes has a secret. A place he goes where no one will bother him, a break amidst the whirlwind of his tasks. A place to soothe his aches and worries, where he thought he would never be found.
Until a man stumbles in. Tall and alluring with black hair and gold eyes, desperate to know him. It's the perfect antidote to the slow poison of knowing his heart's true desire will never love him back. Or is it?

Zagreus takes a deliberate step forward and digs his heel into the earth just to hear dirt crunching. He keeps moving, the branches continue parting. Underfoot, leaves and pebbles continue scattering as if pushed by a silent, unfelt wind.
Something is leading him. Something is watching him. Zagreus is convinced it’s his god. It has to be.

Would we risk everything we have if we did not think you capable? We know you are indescribably capable. You show that every time you step out of this House.” He stops, thinks, then swiftly adds, “That stupid bet was hope. Boredom, too, something new and exciting after aeons of repetitive work. You are new and exciting,” Zagreus’ mouth is open, astonished. “We all had numbers. No one said never. We all knew you were getting out, Zagreus.”
