Things were good this morning. Shane woke him up gently and they stayed in bed a bit, just sharing warmth and soft, unhurried kisses until it was time to get up; Anya excitedly barked and jumped around them until Ilya opened the bay window to let her outside where she did her business before returning to beg for breakfast like they never feed her; Ilya grumbled about the food Shane prepared but he ate it anyway. This morning was like most of the mornings they’ve had since they got married and Ilya had seemed as excited about practice as Shane had felt.
Ilya’s grip on the steering wheel tightens. “Not now,” he says, and it feels like a slap to the face.
September 2021, married Shane and Ilya are now playing on the same team, and the things it does to Ilya.

February 2021. After deciding they are getting married in summer, Shane proposes to accompany Ilya in a last trip to Moscow to get much needed closure. Metaphorical more than literal hand in hand they navigate old friends, memories, and family that had been left behind.

It’s not that he wants to fuck Munson – the guy is in no way Billy’s type. Frankly, Munson doesn’t know how lightly he got off by skipping town before Billy really made his mark, because if Billy had known him in high school, he definitely would have bullied him. Even Munson’s elevation to rock god and public enemy #1 of the Christian Right can’t dispel that faint whiff of overexcited theater kid he carries around. Not fuckable, not even if Billy’s desperate (which he increasingly is).
Besides, it would hurt Billy’s ego to be in the ‘groupie’ category. To be forgettable, one of a long line of easily impressed, easily-bedded youths. He likes to have the upper hand; to be sure that his partner is appropriately grateful for his attention – and appropriately forlorn when it is taken away.
