His stomach drops. Of course. Why did he expect Elias to not be over? Sophie was feeling poorly in the morning and Jon was under the weather as well, so he decided to stay home. Martin tells himself he should have expected Elias to come over to take care of Jon and Sophie. He did hear Rosie mention him leaving earlier than usual. He shouldn't have ignored it then.

Elias was once again silent for a while and Jon slumped in his seat, ready for his request to be denied. How unexpected. Instead, Elias sat down in the visitor's chair, casual and comfortable. The way he used to back when he still visited Jon’s office, in the early days.
“Ask me,” Elias said, leaving Jon speechless. For the first time this whole evening, he looked away from Jon. Eyes trained on the bookshelves behind Jon he repeated: “Ask me, Jon.”
