    Summary

“But, if you want to work with me, fine. But just know I don’t work for free, and I don’t care how noble you are. If you want to join me—show me your panties, and maybe I’ll think about letting you stay.”

Koyomi Araragi is a vampire, a monster, and---according to himself---a total failure. His mind hazy, he wakes up in the town of Axel, a place that smelled of ale and woodsmoke---and lacked anything from his previous life. He wants to be alone. He wants to protect the pure. Instead, he encounters a noble crusader who views his "darkness" as an invitation.

    Abstract

During the ongoing study of the social group known as the 'Serial Killers Appreciation Society', a new, unexpected variable has recently surfaced with the potential to shift both routines and traditions of their members. The significance of such a development has led to the creation of this case study, opened with the specific purpose of documenting the habits, personality, and rituals of this new Subject, one Hortensia Valerie Woodhull, female, age twenty-four. Subject's demeanor can be categorized as 'meek' or 'docile', though occasionally shows signs of becoming uninhibited by her mental blocks. This document contains my findings over the course of my prolonged observation of the Subject, as well as the influence that my presence in her life has had on her. This study consists of my findings, notes, the recounting of events pieced together from multiple primary sources, and my own opinions* of the results therein.

*As a disclaimer, my involvement into the behaviors of the Subject has most likely had more consequences than originally thought. As such, some could come to the reasonable conclusion that this introduces a level of bias in the data provided. Reviewer scrutiny is advised.

    Summary

"Robby’s just a little… skittish, you know?” McKay said, nodding slightly, affirming the unimpeachable truth she spoke.

Jack blinked. “What do you mean?”

She glanced into the patient's room, then back at Jack, a quick burst of skepticism crossing her face. “Look at him,” she urged gently. “He looks like he wants to run through the wall Looney-Tunes style just to escape a hand on his arm.”

A revealing chat with McKay brings up some unexpected questions for Jack regarding Robby's apparent aversion to touch. Being of a scientific mind, he can't abide by his previous oversight. Naturally the only course of action is to embark on a rigorous, methodical investigation into the matter. For the sake of curiosity, obviously. No other reason.

The thing is, the dead gods are dreaming.

    or,

The first lesson passed down from illuminated being to illuminated being: do not give away your true name.

I didn't have time to learn that lesson, too busy concerning myself with developing a new cultivation path as I left Liyue in search of someone who could teach me how to master dreams, and I paid the price. I kept paying the price.

    Summary

“No sex today,” Emily chirped, carelessly dropping onto the sofa and spreading her legs so that just a little more, and if she weren’t wearing tights, Anya would’ve been able to see her spandex panties. “You’re not putting this,” she lifted her hand, eloquently wiggling garishly bright pink nails, “inside me.”

    “I’m not?”

    “Mm-hm.”

“So what the fuck was this whole show for?”

The title references Trofim Lysenko’s famous claim that “genetics is a venal handmaiden of imperialism.” Lysenko, a Soviet agronomist who attempted to apply Marxist-Leninist ideology to biology, actually used much harsher wording—literally, “the sell-out girl of imperialism,” though “the whore of imperialism” better captures the tone.

Finally, Aziraphale spoke. “You mean to say— you got us married?”

“Just as a precaution, I never really thought I’d end up discorporated again, it’d been ages, you just don’t get stampedes or assassinations like you used to —”

“You got us married, and you didn’t tell me?”

    ***

Crowley gets inconveniently discorporated. And it’s not like it’s ever been easy to get a new body, but this time around, things really aren’t looking good. His new innuendo-obsessed lust-demon of a coworker honestly isn’t helping things.

Meanwhile, Aziraphale has a dead body to contend with, and an occult mortician & his very normal daughter to fend off. What lengths will he go to in order to get Crowley back to Earth?

Podfic of dearly departed by attheborder.

    Summary

“Crowley?” the angel asked softly. His eyebrows looked almost painfully pinched. “Whatever happened to your eyes?”

“S’just contacts, angel,” Crowley muttered, suddenly feeling as if his collar was choking him. “They’re not permanent.”

    “But why?” Aziraphale blurted.

Crowley wasn’t sure what answer he’d wanted, but it certainly hadn’t been that one.

“They’re little plastic discs the humans made,” he rasped around the lump swiftly forming in his throat. “All sorts of colours, whatever you want, but they just sit on top. Clever little buggers haven’t figured out permanent yet, but I’m sure— ”

“Crowley, no!” the angel snapped, slamming his glass to the table. After a deep breath in, he seemed to compose himself slightly. “That is… well... what I mean to say is…” Aziraphale trailed off with a defeated sigh. “Oh Crowley, why ever would you change your beautiful eyes?”

    Summary

A self-proclaimed wizard and his sentient luggage, a spacefaring hitchhiker from Betelgeuse V and his favourite hairless ape, the semi-omniscient Antichrist and his plus one, a holistic detective, a homicidal dirt muppet, a CIA agent back from the dead, a bowl of petunias, and the actual, really real gods of fate, luck, and fear.

What do all these things have in common?

Probably absolutely nothing. Improbably? Well, that’s the problem.

Sheer, dumb luck and a cosmic chain of coincidences have tied the strings of fate into a Gordian knot, forcing the paths of our unlikely protagonists to cross, for better or worse.

Dirk Gently wouldn’t describe this as a worst-case scenario. Not because of naive optimism (though that definitely plays a part). Rather, because the phrase implies that alternative scenarios were ever possible. In Dirk’s experience, that’s never the case.

And speaking of cases, it looks like he has a new one on his hands.

So what the hell is going on and why is all this happening?
    “42!”
    “No, still doesn’t fit.”

    Summary

Crowley’s desire for Aziraphale was not, as its core, sexual. No, the desire came from the love, the love he’d had for Aziraphale since before the Fall that had only grown stronger with every interaction. When Aziraphale had given his sword to Adam and Eve. When he’d had so much more faith in Crowley than in God, faith that Crowley would not harm Aziraphale, or Job’s children.

Angels were not alive, and therefore could not die. The Fall was much much worse than the human concept of death, worse than discorporation by a long shot. The Fall was transformative, breaking them down in order to churn out something completely new. Crowley was no longer that Angel. Nor was he a shadow of that Angel, nor a broken piece of that Angel. He was something different altogether. A Demon. But a Demon who loved an Angel, and who loved the earth and humanity.

    Deeply.

    Passionately.

Somehow more than any being ever had before, and yet growing rapidly with each encounter. And someday it was going to consume him.

...or rather, in which: Crowley poses a question and Aziraphale refuses (until he doesn't)
