“Hey,” Trinity says, pushing off the railing. “Would you want to go grab a drink?”
No, is Samira’s knee-jerk response, derived from nothing other than the worn paths in her psyche, of her own self-perception that she isn’t the kind of person who does these things. But. Lightning flashes again and she blinks as rain starts pelting down on them, a true there-and-gone summer storm. There’s no escaping it. Trinity’s laughing as they run back to the door and off the roof. The suddenness of everything squeezes through her and she’s nodding. “Yeah, sure.” Breathless. “Let’s go get a drink.”

santos leans forward, directly over whitaker, who half-heartedly tries to shove her away before he gives up. it allows victoria an unfortunately good view of the dip of the top of santos' scrubs; it's hot as hell outside today, and she just has a tank top and sports bra on underneath—not that victoria cares.
'yeah?' santos asks, grinning way too smugly for victoria's liking. 'like what?'"

“Okay, before you say no, please let me explain,” Trinity says quickly, before Samira even greets her. She has a tote bag across one shoulder and another bag dangling from her hand, but she’s hiding it behind her back intentionally.
“Trin, what is that?” Samira asks, attempting to peek around her body. “Are you okay? Come inside.”
Before Trinity can take a step forward, there’s a loud meow that erupts from the mysterious bag. Samira stares at Trinity’s sheepish grin, then flicks her gaze down as Trinity reveals the cat carrier and holds it in front of her. “Um. Surprise?”

Trinity shakes her head with a laugh, and suddenly pulls her hand away. Samira frowns down at it, then blinks when Trinity moves around her to walk on her left side, and when Samira’s hand sways back down, takes it in her own again. She squeezes it.
“What was that for?” Samira asks, confused.
“Didn’t want you falling into the street,” Trinity explains, like it’s nothing. Stupidly, Samira feels tears well up behind her eyes, blinking them away and cursing herself for being an emotional drunk.

She’s too tired and sore to process what Samira is saying. “What? Then why have you been avoiding me since my first day?”
At this, Samira’s cheeks turn pink and she looks away from her. Trinity watches as several expressions make their way onto her face, unable to read any of them, until she settles with her bottom lip pulled between her teeth and turning white where she bites it. Trinity can’t look away.
“It had nothing to do with Langdon,” Samira repeats quietly. “And everything to do with Garcia.”
