Ulla breeches the surface smoothly, dark hair fanning out. Her voice is splintering frost, quiet and brittle. “Sasha. It has been some time.”
Crouching by the edge of the ice, he smiles down warmly.
“It has, little sister.” His breath plumes out with each breath. “Or should I say, Sankta Ursula?”
She rolls her dark eyes, and bobs a little closer to take his hand.
Her wet grip is tight, and he feels the chill seep into his skin. Nevertheless, it is a comfort. He had taken a long time to return as he had promised, and her welcome reassures himself of their connection in this ever-changing world.
“There are many who come to me with their prayers, their fragile wishes and hopes.” She tips her head up to meet his steady gaze. “Their dreams.”
Aleksander takes some care in tucking the length of his kefta underneath his legs before sitting down on the thick ice beside her.
He squeezes her hand tightly while she floats, and asks softly, “Tell me.”
