This life led him to Shane, and being able to build something with him is the best thing that's ever happened to Ilya. He can’t, ever, fuck this up. He will always try fold himself into smaller pieces to preserve this.
But I don’t want to have to do that, his heart shouts at him. I don't know if I can do that anymore.
Or: Ilya Rozanov fights against and then accepts the fact that there's no such thing as being too late to learn more about yourself, and still be loved.

“A charity really?” Crowell huffs like this was a joke. Shane feels his blood go cold as he realizes this isn’t a friendly little meeting.
Crowell lets out a soft hum, and Shane can hear his chair creek like he’s leaning forward. “Ilya level with me, you’re a bad person.”No. No! No!
or: Crowell tells Ilya he can't start the Irina Foundation because it messes with his 'Bad Boy' persona. Too bad Shane Hollander is listening in on his phone and disagrees.

Ilya scrambles. Too tired, too shocked at his own brain’s betrayal to know how to fix this. “Blyat,” he spits. Then he laughs, and even he can hear that it sounds more wild than genuine. “English language is hard, yes? I meant my boys, my boys who are my friends. The Centaurs, yes? They are all my boy friends.”
OR
Ilya Rozanov has a no-good, very bad two days and accidentally outs himself. He's not having a great time.

Especially for Adrian de la Cruz, who Shane had only known before Barrett as a supremely mediocre actor — he’d always preferred the original Crimson Dagger anyway. Now, however, after hurting a guy who Shane sees as something of a little brother, he wants this guy to get his comeuppance.
