Somehow, in spite of this, he was still able to feel horror—horror from the visceral fear that came of something approaching his eyes in such a manner, and horror at the knowledge of what it meant, what misfortune lay ahead of him.
And, too, he was able to detect his magical pool shrinking—familiar from when the orb had attacked him, and made his body and soul its home. This gave another layer of horror to the experience.
After that, though, as the pod closed, his awareness went dark—and he feared, when the body next woke up, it wouldn’t be him doing the waking."

Summary
I got inspired by "How Kakashi got Adopted by the Nara" by Voldecourt, and this series is the result. It's how I think things could have gone down afterwards between Shikako and Kakashi.
The premise for this series is that Shikako shadow-bonded to Kakashi to save his life during a mission, disregarding the social consequences that doing so might have on her. This isn't something that could be hidden from her clan, due to it's effects on Shikako and Kakashi's shadows, so Kakashi is honorarily adopted as a Nara. Obligations, expectations, and traditions then all come into play, as Kakashi learns Nara lore and shadow techniques.
I've headcanoned that Voldecourt's fic was preceded by events similar to Tirfarthuan's "Shikako Mindwalks Kakashi" (it's posted over on the Recursive thread pgs 281-283). If you've not read them, I encourage you to do so!

Saving the Druid Grove from the goblins led to a celebration that Astarion couldn’t have been less interested in. He resented being revered as a hero and thought the wine was just dreadful. You suggested having a bit of fun together and agreed to meet in the woods once things had quieted down. He flirted with you so much that it was only a matter of time until it finally happened. When he emerged shirtless from the trees and sauntered toward you, fantasy became a reality. Mere nervousness evolved into fear and trepidation as you stared at him in silence.
(Astarion discovers Tav is a virgin and intends on making their first time special so as long as they let him.)

Summary
The Emperor gave you the Astral-Touched Tadpole and encouraged you to embrace your evolution. Accepting the gift would make you transform into a rare breed of monster, a Half-Illithid. You would retain the majority of your appearance, but there would still be painful alterations. The Emperor promised that tapping into your potential would increase your chances of defeating the Elder Brain. However, as you gazed at the worm covered in astral frost, you thought of another monster that needed to die.
(Tav becomes Half-Illithid to kill Cazador and confesses their love to Astarion.)
