His head shot up and he and Annabeth cried as one. “Grover!”
The satyr waved through the Iris message. “Hi. Listen, uh, I have a favor to ask…”
“Anything,” Annabeth promised, “I’m skipping school for the rest of the calendar year, so I’m free to dip whenever and wherever.”
Percy shrugged. “I have no set plans.”
“Great,” Grover looked relieved and glanced around, and that was when Percy noticed he was in a bathroom, probably locked in, “well, ideally you also go pick up Thalia on your way, or meet her here, I don’t mind either, whatever works. I knew I had to call you now if I wanted you to make it, though. Can you guys get to Bar Harbor by Friday evening? It’s an emergency.”

Things are stirring, and Percy's "work trip" is cut short in December to help Grover get two demigods to camp - not new ones, though, because Percy recognizes them, and the monster that's after them. Things spiral out of control almost immediately, and Percy is left with an almost impossible choice.

Grover bleated in annoyed laughter. “Yes, Percy, if I actually get married, I’ll send you an invitation. This is a wedding I think I’d rather you crash, though.”
He hummed. “I mean, I did do that recently. I told you about Tammi, right?"
“Yes,” Grover sighed, “listen, I don’t know how long this connection will last, but I think we’re off the coast of South Carolina; just, follow that feeling thing that points to me, okay? And hurry, I don’t know how long I can fool-”

Percy's known he's a demigod for ages after his frenemy/adoptive sister Kelli told him about it, but he's only had one summer at camp. Still, after a year of wandering, he returns to find disaster has struck - Thalia's pine tree has been poisoned and the barrier is failing. With worrying dreams about Grover on top of that, Percy's determined to go on a quest. Luckily, a certain daughter of the War Lord is waiting for one.
If only this dude who killed and served his children as food wasn't here (was it just Percy or was there a worrying amount of child eaters in Greek mythology...?)

“Hey,” one of the slowly gathering campers called, “he’s got a sword!”
Like a rallying cry, campers started pouring out of the woodworks and Jake took a step back.
“Hey,” a tall blond boy yelled, “don’t crowd him! Back up, back up…”
“Oh, come off it, Luke,” a girl rolled her eyes, “you’re only chill because you’re probably going to get the story first!”
“Um,” Jake swallowed, “story?”
Chiron tried his best to shoo the campers away with a disappointed stare, but while a few of them shrank back, most stood firm.
“Yes,” a younger blond girl folded her arms, eyeing him, “we want to know about your encounter with the wandering swordsman.”

There's a demigod out there, somewhere, that no one can find. But because of him (and his really, really shitty swords), demigods who otherwise wouldn't have, have made it to camp. A daughter of Dionysus, a son of Apollo, a daughter of Athena, at least one in every cabin.
Where is he? Who is he?
(Percy thinks everyone's being dramatic. He's not that cool, and Kelli is more than happy to tell him that. Frequently. Ugh.)
