The silence that followed was deafening. He ignored it and went on to put his gear on. After that it was like a switch had been flipped. No one spoke to him during practice or in the changing room, the team chat was suspiciously quiet. No one did anything physical but they didn’t need to. Their silence spoke louder than anything they could have possibly said and Shane wasn’t stupid despite what many of them thought.
Or: After Rose helps him see that he's actually not broken, Shane finds it harder to pretend to be something he's not so the truth slips out without his permission. The fall out is unpredictable and the life he's spent years building is falling apart. Still he can't find it in himself to regret it because while it might have caused him a lot of pain in the moment that little slip up might have been the best mistake he'd ever made.

But he was about to have twelve hours alone with Shane, and he didn’t want to waste a minute of it. So, he had planned a little.
