At first, Bilbo is very glad to hear of the new alliance between Erebor and the Shire. He is even more excited when he learns that some of his family members are coming to the Lonely Mountain to discuss the details.
That is, until the dwarves (and Thorin, who is decidedly not and never shall be his) start getting along a little too well with one of his more adventurous cousins, and Bilbo starts doubting about his place.

Not only is she a dwarf master of the forge, but she is a stunning Lady with a hidden past and even more dangerous secret than Bilbo's. And what's worse? She knows Bilbo's secret.
Pleasant warmth blanketed Bilbo inside and out. It felt natural to talk to Thorin and time slipped past her fingers as they connected. She had never felt so naturally drawn to someone. A shame she couldn't do anything about it. At least she could enjoy this moment together.
Any weak conviction that their touch was simply platonic was gone when Thorin's cool fingers brushed through her curls. Bilbo shuddered from the delightful touch. Thorin grinned, eyes half lidded as the hobbit melted into her side from the mere petting of her hair. "Thorin?" Bilbo's hand clutched her empty mug, desperate to stay tethered to something that wasn't the tempting dwarf.

When he flees conflict and corruption in Erebor to settle in London, he finds his hands full with two young boys. Gandalf meddles, and Bilbo signs on as a personal tutor for the boys in hopes of getting a foot in the door to archaeological work in Erebor. He soon discovers that Thorin is a tough nut to crack. As Bilbo takes care of the boys he and Thorin grow closer, and secrets about not just the brooding stranger, but the mysterious country and politics of Erebor begin to unravel. It turns out that Bilbo isn't leaving adventure behind, after all.

While Thorin's away for a diplomatic trip to the Iron Hills, Bilbo secretly gets a tongue piercing to surprise his husband with upon his return. Thorin is more than pleased and they try to find a private moment to fuck nasty about it.
Thorin's vision blurred with rampant desire. "We were indeed…" He was quick to grip Bilbo's chin, his thumb parting those plump lips. The hobbit's lids grew heavy and he obediently opened his mouth to display his new accessory. Thorin's mouth watered from the picture before him. His thumb slid into Bilbo's mouth to press against his tongue. The hobbit moaned, causing Thorin's grip to strengthen against his jaw. "It seems my pretty toy needs something to do with his mouth."

An old Dwarven ritual demands a new king perform a fertility rite to ensure a prosperous reign, especially in times of hardship. Much to Thorin's chagrin, his Council addresses this issue. But nobody wants to answer the king's official request to perform the ritual with him. This apparent lack of loyalty enrages Bilbo, and he openly promises his aid to Thorin – even though he has no idea what kind of ritual we're speaking about. When somebody explains it to him, the Hobbit is mortified, but will steadfastly stand by his given word.

While suffering from his line's obsession with gold Thorin Oakenshield rashly makes an agreement with the Shire's Thain that results in him having to marry one of the hobbit's relatives.
Needless to say he isn't pleased, but cunningly picks Bilbo Baggins to be his consort in revenge against the Thain. For his part Bilbo decides to accept the proposal, though Thorin will be quite surprised to find out why.
