He stares at the “Submit” button, and it stares back. His breathing is shallow, his eyes dry and scratchy. He licks his lips, closes his eyes, and clicks. The page refreshes, and with it comes a slosh of vertigo, like stepping off a ledge and waiting to hit ground.
There’s nothing to do now. Satoru closes the laptop and lets the darkness reclaim the room. He sits with his head in his hands until he can convince himself that he’s not going to throw up.
He drifts to bed, phone in hand, the muscle memory of checking notifications impossible to ignore even when there’s nothing to see.
