Summary
And sooner or later, he finds himself picturing and writing about wanting a future with Merlin - a future where Merlin agrees with run off with Arthur to a small, remote village.
He's got it all written out - Arthur would feed the chickens and Merlin would pluck the berries they planted. They'd grow carrots and wheat and maybe even keep bees. They'd lean on each other and kiss as the sun sets.
Arthur would love Merlin, and Merlin would love him back.

Summary
Arthur has recently transferred to Morgana's college and is having a hard time fitting in. His sister is avoiding him, the people are rude, and for some reason everyone keeps doubting his claims of being Morgana's brother. Meanwhile, first year student Merlin is having a great time hanging out with his best friend Morgana, and has no issue when people confuse them as brother and sister. It's not like her real brother goes to school there too, everything will be fine!

In the wake of Uther's unexpected death, and Morgana's subsequent alliance with Odin, Arthur struggles with feeling unprepared to bear the mantle of King. Fearful for Camelot's future, he sees no choice but to swallow his distaste for Cenred and visit Essetir in order to seek an alliance with him. Arthur is utterly horrified when Cenred offers him a defiant, young prisoner, controlled by an iron collar, as 'entertainment' on the first night of his visit, an entertainment he is expected to enjoy. Arthur is frustrated and disheartened by Cenred’s crudeness and disrespect, but continues to visit, trying to win Cenred round. The only bright point in his visits is the intriguing young prisoner, with whom Arthur is forming an unexpectedly close bond, but one that risks being dangerous for both of them.

“Pretty, as they always are,” said Arthur.
It was a truthful answer, which he hoped Gwaine wouldn’t probe him too deeply on. If it had been someone else, he would have tried to summon up more enthusiasm. He hoped, however, that Gwaine was bright enough to realise the circumstances Arthur found himself in by now.
