People underestimate minutes. That should be a general consensus. They think something bad can only happen through hours at a time, like birthing 2 babies or staying inside your brother's closet as punishment. But really, most of the worst stuff happens very quickly.
Or, the one where Stan's biggest problem at the moment is deffinitely about choosing a song to dissociate into, and not the injuries or the beating or the lack of oxygen in his lungs. Just the song for sure.

Part of the reason why outer space had seemed so, well, spacious was how easy it was to pass through it all. Constant steps weren’t needed. All he had to do was give a good jump and there he was, soaring through the cosmos. It was almost like he was flying. In another world, it would’ve been fun to explore a foreign galaxy.
Earth wasn’t like that. Earth was knees knocking together as they struggled to keep him up. It was crutches and physical therapy and chronic pain that’d follow him until he was old and gray. The expectations settled on his chest like stones, stacking on top of every other problem in perfectly topped piles.
He was so heavy now, he thought.
“Do you want a hand?” April asked quietly, eyes wide. Leo’s stomach twisted. She looked so scared. He hated seeing his strong sister so down.
