Summary
The Montreal Metros didn't take the news of Shane's and Ilya's relationship well.

In the aftermath, Shane tries to protect Ilya as much as he can, not wanting to bother him with his fears.
For Ilya it feels like Shane doesn't want him anymore, which causes him to spiral.

Summary
So that’s how Hayden found himself in Shane’s hospital room with Rozanov, JJ, and Shane’s parents, Yuna and David. Shane seemed to have managed to fall asleep despite all of the commotion, his eyes shut like he hadn’t a care in the world, like he didn’t have a concussion and broken collarbone and his archrival wasn’t currently in the room with him. Hayden was thankful for whatever painkillers they had him on to allow him to sleep so soundly.
Rozanov was glancing between the four of them, the doorway, and the single window in the room, his body language guarded. Maybe he was trying to figure out if he could jump out the window and survive a fall from the fourth floor, since they were actively blocking his only other exit out of the room.
“So, you are going to tell us, yes?” JJ said through gritted teeth. “What you were doing with Hollander.”

He’d been alive long enough to experience the confused glances and exasperated scoffs that always accompanied his discomfort with things other people didn't even notice. He stood watching the water pool around his feet and slip down the drain until he heard Ilya stir. At first, he wasn't sure if he had really heard his name.

He wanted to yell back, assure Ilya everything was fine, but when he opened his mouth, only a squeak escaped.
“Moya lyubov?”
He cleared his throat and tried again: “In here.”

Summary
A buzz on his nightstand interrupted Ilya’s train of thought. He reached for his phone, squinting at the brightness of the screen in the dim room. “We didn’t even kiss” Ilya’s stomach dropped as he read and reread the message. The cigarette, still unit, fell from his mouth and into his lap.
Had he been so caught up in his own head he’d neglected Shane? Things had been different tonight. He knew that. Ilya had kept Shane at arms’ length, trying his best not to let on how badly he needed him. But still, he’d thought it was good enough for the both of them. What if he’d crossed a line? What if Shane felt like he’d been used up and thrown away? Like he was something disposable not even worthy of a kiss. Before he could even think about what he was doing, Ilya had already pressed a trembling finger to the call button and brought the phone to his ear.
