For a moment, all is tranquil. Night air is the intangible hands whose skin is dotted in condensed dews, grabbing onto any exposed skin until shivers jump and scatter in their wake, prompting You Huo to pull his jacket closer to himself until his chin sinks into the worn fabric. The lamppost on the side gates is an old one, its light a bleak yellow and its bent neck brittle from the erosion of time. It lends a glimmer to You Huo's raven-black hair, faint and feeble, a gossamer veil trying its best to hide him away from the bustling world.
You Huo’s thumb is one centimetre away from pressing the “order" button on his phone when Qin Jiu speaks up on his side, shattering the quiet with his low, careful voice.
“Big Invigilator, want to hitch a ride with me?"
Not all calmness exists in death. Sometimes, it can be found in Qin Jiu and You Huo's shared smiles too.

“You’re drunk.” You Huo pushes him on the bed, and straddles him slowly. For all his composure, he’s not meeting Qin Jiu’s eyes and his cheeks look flushed.
“I know.” He pulls in You Huo to flutter kisses at his neck and says, “But it’ll be morning soon, and I won’t be drunk, but you’ll still be gorgeous.” It’s good that You Huo’s collarbone can’t see Qin Jiu’s face.
[Or, what if there's a bar near the site where the system is being built, mostly for bored workers and stationed soldiers. Maybe one night, a certain pair meet years earlier than expected. And fall for each other too, but that's the obvious part with them.]

Sam knows the only way to save the people he loves is to stay far away from them. He knows in the other timeline he ruined everything. This new life that Gabriel created is so much better for everyone. Even if it means he can never be Sam Winchester, can never be Dean's brother.
As events and memories start to echo across to the new timeline, Sam has to face who he really is and Dean has to choose who he becomes.
