I have written several versions of Sherlock, John and Mary. I like a Mary who is cleverer than the canon Mary but not evil or clueless and I thank the Granada Mary Morstan for that. Actress Jenny Seagrove was outstanding.

Summary
He could hear voices outside that were scaring him half to death. He was engulfed by unrelenting dread and thoughts that the unspeakable would occur. His fear was tiresome, an incessant ache that he simply could never escape from, no matter where he hid. He knew that he should remain as motionless as possible, he had received the same basic military training as any soldier would, but without his comrades, he only had his imagination for company. Thinking about how good it would feel to be back home, even if he did have to ask Harry of all people if he could share her flat, was the only thing that could stop his imagination from going on a rampage. But it never stopped the ache. Nothing ever stopped the ache.

For the second year in a row, on the anniversary of her death, I saw my wife waiting for me. Holmes had been returned from his sojourn to Europe for nearly a year, alive and whole though worse for wear; I had sold my practice and moved back into Baker Street; and we had begun an affair. It had been since the start of the year, and now I felt the weight of that decision like a millstone as I tried to ignore my dead wife’s presence. I didn’t regret it. Not for a moment. But I hadn’t expected to look her in the eye five minutes after I’d kissed him goodbye.
“I need to know you’re all right, John,” she said.
“I’m all right,” I said, and it was even true.
“I need to know you’re happy.”

Rosie is sick. She wants Sherlock. Instead of being jealous - like he would have been before Mary's death - John understands. In fact, he thinks it's adorable.
However, John and Sherlock's relationship is a tenuous, transitional stage, and Sherlock doesn't know how to navigate it. He still struggles with guilt from Mary's death, trauma from his return to drugs, discovering Eurus, etc.
At the same time, John is the best he's been in years. He goes to therapy two times a week, has a secure job at the clinic, and has finally settled into being a full-time parent. He has also accepted that he is in love with Sherlock.Can Rosie help bring them together?
