Just think about spock's parents visiting and suddenly there is this daemon sitting on their son's shoulder . I don't think " oh his soulmate must hab given him one" is the normal assumption to make. More like " HOW FUCKING CLOSE ARE YOU TO YOUR MATE?" or " HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MAKE IT STAY WITH YOU ? WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE POOR THING?!!" And just imagine the honey badger suddenly just comming into the room and cuddling up to spock.
