Hannibal is fond of having Frederick sing for him while sitting on his lap, sometimes in the middle of sex, especially since Frederick often blushes when he sings even if no one has started touching him yet.
I think when Frederick is in his 20s and Hannibal is in his 30s they could run into each other at some hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast inn -- sometimes people don't sell the house they live in till they have a new one, but depending on the market and finance some actually actually sell and live in motels while looking for a new house, especially Frederick isn't sure where he wants to live yet, but he was moving from someplace expensive to the cheaper south, and Hannibal was there because he wasn't quite sure where he wanted to settle after Europe. Maybe it could be New Orleans and so Will actually had seen Frederick before Hannibal snatched him up...
Frederick should already be Hannibal's pet when they both meet Will and Hanni becomes fascinated by him. Still looks like Tick Tick!Esparza, very twinky and twitchy, but a well-behaved bunny.
A lot of chillyhannigram fics has Hannibal or Will dumping Frederick for each other in the end, which is canon, but I think if the three had met ten years before, Hannibal could have preferred Frederick, as Will would have been a rookie cop fresh out of the academy, haven't even killed anyone yet, while Frederick was more palatable and interesting to Hannibal before he did get swarmy as the hospital director -- I also think that Hannibal has hang-ups about authority figures, that's why he went out of his way to torment Jack...and probably hangs up about 'older men', the guys the same age as the one who broke into the house where he and Misha was, my head canon is that he prefers people in their mid 20s regardless of his own age, at least when he met them. Raul Esparza was gorgeous in Cabaret, his eyes was most of his face. Without the over accessorizing offending Hannibal's eyes on first sight, without probably way too much cologne, without the beard hiding his cherubic features, I could see Hannibal preferring young Frederick over then, too young Will. Alana Bloom note that Hannibal was having an affair with someone else while he was her mentor -- I think a younger Hannibal was probably more thirsty, still trying to find another human being that's good for something other than being meat. Will and Hannibal's connection is that they are both thinking monsters with control over their dark urges -- Hannibal just chose to indulge his more...whereas Frederick, is definitely not their equal, more like a pet, but a cherished pet.
Or rather than dead set mid 20s, it's more that Hannibal is fascinated by people who are changing into something else, Bedelia after she killed her patient, Will Graham after he killed Jacob Hobbs, Frederick after he killed who he used to be, and Jack's wife, Bella, who was dying. I also think whether or not Hannibal gets obsessed depends on where he is in life and what's entertaining him already. I don't think the Hannibal in Red Dragon would have been as taken with Clarice Staring as he did in Silence of the Lambs, where he's been starved of beautiful things for several years, if she had met him earlier he would have killed her or tried to kill her as he did with Will in Red Dragon. Miriam Lass was the stand-in for Clarice Staring, but Hannibal wasn't taken with her because he already got tons of stuff he's juggling, he only used her to get to Jack, Lass was too young, and I think Hannibal was insulted and disappointed that she thought he was someone else after all, and crucially, she was there to interview him but she had zero suspicion till she saw the sketch, unlike Will Graham in Red Dragon who was already questioning why Hannibal didn't mention the possibility of cannibalism before.
I think Hannibal crave someone who can see him and is attached to him, doesn't have to be a sexual thing. He tried to make Abigail into daughter because that's what Will wants as well, and what Alana wants, but while Abigail was a very young woman, she was already a woman, she already had parents, she didn't see Will or Alana as parents at all even though both of them thought of her like a daughter or little sister -- I think Abigail sealed her fate when she failed to attach at the end f Oeuf, she left Will alone when he was having a mental break-down and she pushed Alana out a window, but even earlier on, Hannibal cut her ear off because she didn't listen to him when he told her not to write the book with Freddie Lounds and not to dig up that guy, she wasn't a pet or a daughter, she was like Tobias or Freddie, she was her own player without any attachment to Hannibal or people he was fond of, so Abigail was on her own, but unfortunately for her she was so young she was no match at all, and while 'Abigail' was a big part of Will's mind palace, that wasn't the real Abigail, the poor girl in the end was like her dead bestfriend, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Oh, Alana Bloom definitely WAS in the pet category, when she was his mentee, when he started dating her a a cover, and up until she tried to shoot him -- if she haven't done that I don't think Hannibal would have harmed her, he would have see her as an old pet, not a threat, not a player. To some extent Margot Verger who was his patient, and then he probably sees Margot as Alana's pet.

Hannibal snatched Frederick up at the perfect time, when there is nobody there to report Frederick missing and Frederick was still trying to figure out what to do with his life, and everything already felt unreal even before he ran into Hannibal. His time as Hannibal' 'guest' is outright dream-like, the drinks are drugged, but even without the drugs, he's in some luxurious suite that must be in the middle of nowhere because he couldn't hear traffic at all, or any human voice other than on occasion, Hannibal. At first it's just him in that suite with the locked exterior doors, the mini-fridge with snacks, and the delicious meals pushed through a service window, but though someone must be restocking the fridge and cooking those meals it was as though Frederick was the only one left in the room, in that suite. He reads all the books and rereads them, sometimes there are new magazines. He tries the musical instruments and get new scores, new instruments. There is nobody that Frederick could even ask to let him out. He feels like an exotic zoo animal, the bed is the most comfortable he had ever slept in and the food is delicious, but the environment is unnatural. He starts to lose his appetite and pacing back and forth more, not just on the trackmill but all around the suite instead of sleeping. Sometimes he passes out in the kitchen where the slot to the outside is after asking if anybody is really out there till his throat is sore. Sometimes he wakes up in a different bed, he's too tired and drugged to move, but someone is petting his hair and rubbing his shoulders, and he felt better afterwards, till the cycle repeats again.
When Hannibal finally starts talking to Frederick, the poor bunny is just relieved to just talk to someone again that he didn't even think to ask to be let out.
After many years Hannibal starts taking Frederick on road trips, leave him in the car when he goes to pay for gas, leaves him alone in the motel room when he goes for room service or groceries -- in fact, I think Hannibal would feel up but not actually do anything actually sexual with Frederick till there's been several opportunity for Frederick to just walk out of where Hannibal has left him, but Frederick doesn't, because he's a well-behaved bunny.
It's actually an unexpected happy surprise when Hannibal does feel him up at last and seems to want to sleep with him, cause Frederick didnt think Hannibal liked him in that way, he's just his pet. So he feels extra loved and happy.
After Frederick had been in that locked suite for about a year or two, and he has just about forgotten how to speak English or that Outside exist, Hannibal told him that they were going to move to their new house, and Frederick should pack the books and clothes he can't do without for the next few weeks. Outside is overstimulating and he gets a headache not understanding a word other people say when they are at a gas station or a cafe, it's a relief when it's just him and Hannibal in the car or their motel room. Before, Frederick sleeps alone in his suite, except when he's so distressed from being touch starved that Hannibal takes him out to pet him before putting him back, now he sleeps with Hannibal every night and it's so nice. They get to their new house by the sea and Hannibal shows him his side of their room for his things, and then Frederick kisses Hannibal, but almost panics till Hannibal kisses back.
They go on more road trips and get married. Alana Bloom is surprised but sent them a card. Then Jack Crawford shows up at their doorstep with Will Graham, who had been having hallucinations of of Abigail Hobbs and her father since Will shot Jacob but not before Jacob killed Abigail. Will vaguely remembers Hannibal and Frederick from New Orleans but that was 10 years ago and all of them are different now. Hannibal is intrigued by Will who is hiding the fact that he's hallucinating and Will is intrigued by Frederick -- something felt 'off' about the way Hannibal interacts with his husband who doesn't speak English.
Almost everybody thinks that Frederick is cute, if a bit shy, and that Hannibal is a sweet and loving husband, but every time Will Graham looks at them, he feels something is wrong, and the only one who will agree with him is Freddie Lounds. They need to becareful because if Lounds figured out that Frederick Lector's name used to be Chilton, she'll find records of Frederick Chilton having graduated at two med schools here and therefore his inability to speak English would be Very Strange.
Well, it's not like the emergency contact scenario where Chillyfu loses his memory and Hannibal pretends they had a romantic relationship all along, they did develop a romantic relationship here under extremely Dubious Consent scenario, and in such a slow boil way that Chilton never thought it was wrong...or he didn't care it was wrong. At the time Hannibal snatched him up, Chilton had just burnt a lot of bridges and didn't even know where he was going to go...or who he was going to be, he was trying to forget how to speak Spanish and figure out a new accent. During his time as Hannibal's 'guest'...he forgot how to SPEAK English because he haven't spoken it in over a year, but it's not like he couldn't relearn it again since he kept reading, especially once he hears Hannibal start speaking it. Ha, maybe by the time they get to Baltimore, Frederick speak heavily accented English and that's why he usually doesn't speak, and Frederick just doesn't like Hannibal's usual dinner guests.
