I have to tell you (and I guess anyone else who reads this--) when I was teaching I decided I was going to do puppetry. So I did. For years. And any adult watching could tell you I totally suck at it and I should never quit my day job because nobody else would ever pay me to do that. But here's the thing. Everyone six and under would tell you that I'm a rock star with a puppet on my hand--or actually, that the PUPPET is the rock star because I cease to exist once that puppet takes over. There's something magical that frees us when there's a puppet involved. I have a collection of puppets that have been gifted to me over the years, but I never have strong feelings for one until I've gotten to use it with a group of kids--then it develops into a character and we all grow to love it. And I absolutely believe that there is something hugely therapeutic in that--some people can really let things go with the use of puppetry. The way you allow these characters to play--to express their more vulnerable, less sophisticated selves--is so fucking beautiful. Okay, now i'm off to cry!
I have to admit, I have a few Pablos in my life, I'm that kinda person; like, my oldest buddy of that kind def has the attitude issues of a certain piranha, too...
