F*ck, a masterpiece. That’s what this story is, my dear author, and I’m so goddamn glad you decided to come back to finish it up. I completely ADORE the way you have characterized Aaravos’ tale along with painting him in a more morally grey light. For real, your characterization showed many of my own personal thoughts on how the relationship between the dragons and elves had been with humans back in ancient times, how Aararos may have been the ‘Great One’ that granted humanity with dark magic to give them a fighting chance to survive in a world that seemingly gave no f*cks about them, and how the way Zubeia and other people painted Aaravos as an evil manipulative bastard who merely wanted to rule the world or something in-between such lines always seeming to ring hollow to me—too simple, for a being that had supposedly belong to a species naturally gifted in the way of the cosmos. So yeah, thank you, truly, and I look forward with excitement to the grand finale that you may hopefully provide us whenever you decide.
Sincerely, Promistor
PS: Your comparison of Aaravos to Prometheus was exquisite, and I nearly shed a few tears (yeah, nearly, because the wetness around my eyes was caused by the onions, I swear!) while reading the scene of Aaravos showing Callum his memories of when he had returned to Earth and saw all the unnecessary tragedy that had plagued humanity. *nods while wiping some leftover wetness* Indeed, and the way the scene noted how the only thing alive that Aaravos had found during that memory was a little boy, bleeding and without and eye, not helping in the shedding of tears.
PSS: Despite Aaravos shaping his PowerPoint presentation in a way that while not lying, placed him in a more sympathetic light, and therefore showing his skillful skills at manipulation at play, it honestly doesn’t bother me much because let’s be honest, any reasonable person should be able to expect that if someone wants to make you join their side, they’ll likely try to twist the story in a way to make themselves look favorable when compared to other options; and in a way, I respect that, while at the same time admiring how Aaravos truly makes the saying of how sometimes just simply telling damning truths is all one needs to be convincing.
PSSS: *lifts cup* Here is a toast towards the hope Aaravos’s plans to adopt Callum succeed. That boyo really needs some support, and Aaravos? Callum might give Aaravos as much as he takes from him—what with the centuries of loneliness that Aaravos had surely faced.
PSSSS: Also love your take on Callum’s complicated feelings towards Rayla and the effects her abandoning and then coming right back, and, as you said, inserting herself once again into Callum’s life as if nothing had changed, have had—something that I’m unsure if the show itself was able to reflect on through season 4 and 5 (my memories are a bit fuzzy but I don’t think they really did touch upon the topic much, had they? I may be wrong, so apologies if I am)
Shit, I just shed a few myself. Thank you so much for your comment; as you probably know, such a detailed analysis and appreciation of an author’s work means the world to any creator.
This show has a problem with showing nuance in characters, and then maintaining the fact there is only two sides. Elves good, humans bad, and for some reason it’s just the humans that have to make up for millennia of bad blood. Especially when most of it was inflicted on the humans.
Believe it or not, the comparison to Prometheus was kind of an on-the-spot thing. I was just wondering if humans would have found a way to preserve the story of Elarion without mentioning her name. It turned out better than expected, so I decided to keep it in.
Honestly, this comes from my fascination with anything and everything related to fae lore. I headcanon, and the show pretty much confirms it, that the Startouch elves are pretty much the Fae of the TDP universe. Can’t lie, but anyone who knows they’re talking to them consider it common sense to never take anything you say at face value. And yes, honest truths are often more damning than lies.
*reciprocates toast* Don’t worry, that will come next chapter. Now that Aaravos has established Callum can’t trust anyone else and that fighting him is a waste of time, how hard can it be to convince him to abandon everything and come live with him for a few decades? Surely this won’t create any paternal feelings and patterns of behavior, he is far beyond such things. *wink*
The show did “attempt” to address Rayla’s departure, and I think at the beginning it was pretty much what I wanted on Callum’s end. Callum was clearly pushing down his feelings because he and Rayla were on a mission and there was more pressing things to worry about. What I don’t like, is that Rayla doesn’t seem to think she did something wrong. In S3, Rayla reunited with Ethari and sees how her seemingly abandoning her mission made him believe that both Runaan and her died. She despised the fact that her parents supposedly ran away and abandoned their mission. But that snag at the beginning could have been easily rectified by Rayla realizing *that’s exactly what she did*. She got scared, and ran. It could have been a huge moment for her character if she had showed any amount of introspection and realized what she put Callum through by just, leaving him for two years. Not these awkward interactions that make Callum out to be irrational. Speaking of Callum, I assumed based off the opening scene that Callum would be bottling up his emotions over the season (something Rayla did multiple times) show a few moments, possibly under prodding from Aaravos, that he was hiding a lot of fear and anger underneath. Then, somewhere near the end, Callum and Rayla conveniently get left alone for a bit (Like f*cking WASTED campfire scene) Rayla makes an off-handed comment that’s the last straw for Callum before he erupts at her. After Callum says his piece, Rayla offers an olive branch, and they start slowly to rebuild their friendship which follows them into S6.
That is one of many ways this severe breach of trust could have been handled with finesse. Unfortunately, it seems the writers lost that in S4 and we are stuck with the consequences.
Sorry about the rant. Thank you again for leaving such a wonderful comment, I’m going to get back to writing now <3
