    Agreed fully about puppy mills and other types of animal mistreatment. In fact, this story in part is a piece of social commentary on such reprehensible practices. Usually (as is the case here), I include comic or otherwise lighter sections to provide contrast. And while I do have a few other dark fics (“The Survivor,” “The Blood Brother,” “The Wind”), most of my stuff is far less so — in fact, the bulk of these stories are comedies or emotional essays. I enjoy stretching out into many genres and approaches.
