I loved this! Such a fascinating AU - I loved the urban fantasy feel of the Yiling power plant and wwx's power being based on being part of the city, knowing it and its people. Their relationship growing felt so organic and right: the confrontation was so tense and hurtful-good, wwx calling lwj the man he loves but will go against anyway just devastated me. I went through wondering if Mama Lan and lxc would show up and thought I really wanted that, but the end and lwj accepting giving up that mystery and old sorrow for the love in front of him was perfect, just what I didn't know I needed!
I admit that in my mind Mama Lan and lxc are still out there, somewhere, being a part of another story that I will probably never write, because I like the way it's left hanging now. One of the things I love about wangxian is that while they do get a happy ending in canon, it is a bitter-sweet one, there's also a lot of loss and many sacrifices, so I love mirroring that somehow in what I write. They are together because they choose to be, despite what it might cost them, which I find so powerful.
