Comment on Reading Percy Jackson: Book 2 - The Sea of Monsters

  1. Partly because I thought it would be fun to have the characters not to have the sense of security the whole way through. I need them to have some knowledge and grow from it but spend some time unsure as well, still have some personal growth to go. For now, they know people survived...in the future they may not. Secondly I did it because I want every character to join in the discussion. I think they would have less to say if they knew exactly what happened because they would give stuff away.

The specific reason I didnt do the Percy from the future was because I didn't want to write a Percabeth story. The Percy that has survived Tartarus is so firmly in love with Annabeth it would be too unrealistic to make him fall in love with someone else. Whereas this Percy has a crush on her but could also like someone else (Rachel) and while its not totally realistic he would fall in love with a God, its not as bad while he is still unattached

          1. Later on in this read through Piper and Jason do realize their relationship is fake and break up. Leo even realizes it’s weird that he fell in love with someone who seemed to hate him. So that’s not the only pairing being changed as people develop differently.

          2. There is one thing I would like to point out that you brought up in your argument. It is that Annabeth gets true over the course of the series. And that is totally true, Annabeth does get better. Lorixjake said clearly that they do like Annabeth and she and Percy will have a strong bond in this series, just familial rather than romantic.

Though that is true, Apollo does in fact get much better during the course of Lorixjake's series. He as well as the other gods start well, kind of awful, before slowly starting to see it from their kids' point of views and changing. It isn't instant, they are eternal, and so it is a slow process, but in reading Percy Jackson, Apollo becomes better.

Different people have different tastes, but that doesn't mean you should completely tear them down due to a decision you don't like. If you have no nice things to say, don't say anything at all. At least give constructive criticism rather than hating on work someone clearly put a lot of thought and effort into.
