  1. an image of Ai from Cat's Eyes. She has pale skin and black hair. She is wearing a blue newsboy cap, a grey jacket, a striped green and yellow top, and blue trousers. She's midway through tossing metal pins up in the air. the background is blue-green

Hey dude, this is really cool and interesting! 1) thank you for writing it and 2) this explanation is way better than 'All the characters suddenly have no personality as the plot demands' bs the show pulled. I'm really enjoying it!

    1. 1. you're welcome, and thank you right back!
      2. yeah, one of the (many) problems i have with the show is that it can never seem to decide how minor of characters the classmates really are. on one hand, we often have episodes centered on a classmate that fleshes them out (pretty much all the classmate akuma episodes), as well as seeing them interact together regularly (kitty section, the race in timebreaker, the art club, etc). at the same time, the show will often turn around and treat them like background characters with no development (chameleon, of course, but also the newer episode party crasher). it's not always big things either-- juleka and luka never interact or even talk about each other despite being brother and sister, and all the girls will act like a close friend group in one episode and ignore each other in the next. it's infuriating how easily this could be fixed if the writers cared enough to be consistent. hell, you wouldn't even need to introduce magic to keep the "lila turns people against marinette" narritive; just put her in the other class we see in the picture day episode and have /them/ believe that marinette is awful! if you played your cards right it could be just as suspenseful as the writers wanted the original episode to be. marinette having her things ruined and having her locker defaced with insults without any idea why or who would even do such a thing, perhaps later suspecting her friends have turned against her? it could be really interesting without warping the classmates we care about, and later fleshing out the other class once lila's outed as a lier.
but yeah, thanks for the comment!

Yeah, exactly as you said! There are so many better ways the writers could do things, if they were just consistent, and actually gave a damn about the characters instead of having them change to fit the plot! I really enjoyed all the episodes that fleshed the characters out, even if they had other faults, because good characters can pull a bad plot, or allow me to ignore other problems (frankly, a show can be a bit terrible but still /fun/ if the characters are good), but all the backsliding and rubbish characterisation only makes me annoyed, and it makes it easier for me to see all the faults. Sorry for ranting a bit, but yeah I totally agree.
