Comment on Protocol SOTERIA

  1. First of all I need to say that holy crap I respect the amount of research and knowledge about government and laws that went into this piece, and I loved the quotes (though I only recognized the ones from Despereaux). One of my main issues with CW was that they created this global issue with the Accords and the UN, but at the same time all the focus was on the heroes, in their own little insulated world (other than Tony), where only harming one of their own carried real consequences, and everyone else--the victims, the law enforcement, the government, the ordinary folks trying to survive in a world with craziness every other day--was just part of the background. So I really loved how you showed the real work, the real sweat, blood, and tears, and the real politics, brainpower, and manpower that goes on behind getting the Avengers recognized as a global task force, providing for new heroes that are popping up, and compensating for the people and property that Team Cap and others essentially bulldozed their way through. I have seen that in maybe 1% of the other post-CW fics I've read. Seeing Tony working his ass off to help the people who abandoned him is heartbreaking--certainly no one on Team Cap has been shown to be capable of that level of selflessness. And as for Steve...after the stunts he pulled, I've no sympathy for him. He should be ever so grateful Tony can't find it in his heart to hate him, or else Tony could have easily showed his teeth and ripped him to shreds. I think my favorite parts were Tony's "fuck yeah I got things done" moments, "Proud Dad" moments, and especially the "I want him back, but I don't NEED him, and there is a difference. I can do this, with or without him" moment :)

Also, writing a cliffhanger like that without a sequel would be the cruelest thing ever. :)

    1. Oh my God thank you so much! Oh yeah, the research was...a lot. But also super fun! (Lovechild of S&D and AP Gov, like I said) I actually started watching UN live streams in my Cold War class back in May instead of doing my work. I totally agree, the movie was very focused on how the Accords would affect the Avengers and not on how the Accords would affect the world. To me the Accords were all about an holistic approach to a global issue, something that Avengers could never accomplish without a simple chain of command. Take Lagos for example: the Avengers had plenty of time to inform the Nigerian government of Hydra's presence in their country and the Nigerian...I dunno, Special Ops Force or something, could have dealt with it before they ever even reached the research center. I am sympathetic towards Steve, I really am, because I see where he's coming from. I think all of his actions stem from one major flaw: his lack of knowledge about global politics and foreign policy. Anytime he enters a country they could label him as a terrorist. He could start WWIII by just stepping off a plane. I love the guy, but he needs to do some research of his own. I do really hope to write a sequel (just gotta figure out what the hell it'll be about and where the hell Tony is 'cause spoiler alert: I don't even know) and I know if I do a lot of it will be focused around one single line that Wanda said "None of this had ever been about them, had it?" You can expect a lot of anger from Peter, due to the fact that he's the only one of them to every really be a civilian during all of this superhero shit. He's got...he's got a lot to say. Prepare yourself.

      1. I feel like ross snatched tony up & handed him over to like hydra just to be a dick. or loki snatched him to up & kept him to make future plans or weapons about/against thanos. just as a thought.
