Chapter Text
Caitlyn still didn’t know why she had let Mel convince her into this party.
She didn’t really want to go, especially since she had classes to deal with in the morning. Caitlyn was a star student after all and she wasn’t about to let that be ruined for anything. Except for maybe her best friend’s gift for persuasion. Mel had the gift to convince you to do just about anything - but then again, she was a Medarda. She was beautiful, rich, and charming without a whole lot of effort.
It was both wonderful and infuriating all at the same time.
“Turn that frown upside down, this is going to be a fun party,” Mel replied as they walked down the long hallway, various apartments around them. But they were only headed to one, the faint noise of music leading them there.
“If you say so,” Caitlyn folded her arms across her chest, not bothering to hide her doubt.
Contrary to popular belief, Caitlyn Kiramman was no stranger to parties. She’s been to a couple ever since she started college. But this was way out of her league. Caitlyn felt entirely like a fish out of water.
“I know so. Sevika throws some of the wildest parties ever,” Mel tried to assure her.
“Sevika? I thought the both of you had broken up,” Caitlyn furrowed her brows in confusion.
“We’re back on again,” Mel explained, as though Caitlyn should’ve known that by now.
“For the fourth time in a row,” Caitlyn murmured.
Sevika was trouble, Caitlyn knew that much. She wasn’t being judgmental just because she was from the wrong side of the tracks. Sevika was literally trouble, hanging out with some shady people and even rumored to sell drugs from time to time. But Mel was head over heels for Sevika, managing to see something good in her that others couldn’t. The only problem (besides the major one) was that the two of them were both stubborn and hard headed, leading to them fighting and breaking up before making back up a couple days (sometimes a week) later.
They were so up and down that Caitlyn felt like her head was spinning whenever Mel talked about their relationship.
“I heard that. Anyways, I want to be here and support her. And be a trophy girlfriend. I’m really good at it,” Mel remarked.
“You’re wonderful at it,” Caitlyn stated. If there was one thing Mel was good at (besides being way too persuasive for her own good), it was being gorgeous arm candy.
Out of the two friends, Mel was the one with more of a fashion sense. And she really had a thing for gold, including the piece in just about everything. In her makeup, her clothes, even her hair. It was no wonder that Sevika was infatuated with her, unable to keep her hands off of Mel whenever they were in the same room together.
“Maybe you’ll find a hot distraction while you’re here. Lots of Sevika’s friends are hot. You need a bad girl to loosen you up,” Mel playfully wiggled her brows, causing Caitlyn to roll her eyes in an equally playful manner.
“I am loose enough, thank you very much,” Caitlyn quickly argued.
“Not with that stick firmly lodged up your ass. Come on, Cait. Try and have fun for me,” Mel held onto Caitlyn’s hand, giving her a pouty look which always seemed to work. Unfortunately.
“Okay. But do you promise not to abandon me?” Caitlyn relented.
“I promise that I won’t abandon you, Caitlyn. When have I ever broken that promise?” Mel scoffed, leading Caitlyn to the door and knocking on it several times.
Caitlyn raised a brow. “Do you really want me to answer that one?”
Sure enough, Caitlyn would end up being left alone at the party. It’s not as though she could complain to Mel about being abandoned at the rowdy party which was definitely out of her league. She’d be all too comfortable on her girlfriend’s lap, the two of them making out as though there weren’t other people around. Caitlyn wasn’t even sure why Mel even bothered to bring her if she was just planning on spending the night with Sevika.
Try and have fun for me.
“Right,” Caitlyn said quietly to herself. She brought her out here so she could attempt to have some fun for herself. But this party was not her idea of fun. Her ideas of fun included staying home, maybe watching a good movie or two. Definitely reading some of her favorite books and studying to make sure she kept her place at the top of her classes.
Not ending up with a hangover by the morning.
Nonetheless, Caitlyn finds a can of unopened beer lying on the table. She cracks it open before taking a sip, regretting it the moment she did. She was much more of a wine kind of girl anyways. Maybe champagne if she was in the mood for it. She had grown up rich too. Far too rich. It was to the point where all she had to do was say her last name and everyone instantly knew who she was.
Her mother was a highly famous politician after all.
Still, Caitlyn decided to keep the can of beer on her. She needed something to get her through tonight. Mel was her ride back and Caitlyn didn’t know how long she’d be with Sevika. Caitlyn would just have to stick it out until Mel was ready to go. Or until Caitlyn snapped and dragged Mel out of the party herself. Whichever one came first.
Caitlyn managed to move through the crowd, polite and proper as ever, before finding an empty spot on the wall to lean her body against. She figured that she might as well stay here for the rest of the night, hidden where no one else would be able to see her. She took a couple more sips from her beer, grimacing at the taste but she persisted nonetheless.
Caitlyn’s eyes moved around the room, seeing the various people having fun around her. There were several guys going crazy with beer pong and there were couples dancing to the R&B song blasting from the speakers. There were also girls on their own and dancing, trying to catch attention from any and everyone. Caitlyn wished that she could be that daring to dance and be confident about it. But even the thought alone made her feel nervous.
She wasn’t even that great of a dancer anyways.
One of the girls walking past winked over at Caitlyn as she walked past, making the bluenette smile back at her. She was cute and maybe Caitlyn figured that she’d talk to her if she had enough courage to. For once, Caitlyn was grateful that Mel wasn’t around - knowing that Mel would’ve probably shoved her over and forced her to talk.
Taking a long swig of beer, Caitlyn wiped the back of her hand when she was done. It was then that her gaze fell upon a girl sitting on one of the couches across from her. She had fiery pink hair which was cut short, the side shaved off. Although Caitlyn couldn’t see much, she knew that her arms were covered in tattoos. She was handsome and from the looks of it, she had a way with the ladies. There was a pretty girl sitting next to her with long red hair and she had her hand on the red head’s thigh while talking to her.
The red head was utterly mesmerized by her.
Caitlyn had to admit that she too couldn’t stop staring at her. She seemed to command attention without trying. And, obviously, it didn’t help that she was very good looking. But Caitlyn was soon embarrassed when she saw that she had been caught staring. While the red head was whispering in her ear, the pinkette had turned to look at Caitlyn. Caitlyn’s eyes widened and her cheeks turned a deep shade of pink. But instead of being offended by Caitlyn’s staring, she actually seemed to… like it.
She winked over at Caitlyn, making the bluenette’s heart skip a beat, before she turned back to focus her attention on the red head. Caitlyn managed to get herself together and walked away before she could get caught staring again. Caitlyn’s throat suddenly felt dry and she finished the rest of the beer in the can just to try and make herself feel better.
Caitlyn once again spotted Mel and Sevika a distance away, still making out with each other and Sevika’s hands were gripping onto Mel’s ass the whole time. Resisting the urge to tell the both of them to get a room, Caitlyn just groaned and walked in the opposite direction, hoping that she wouldn’t have to run into the girl from the couch again. She was still embarrassed that she had been caught staring in the first place.
Usually, Caitlyn was a little better at not getting caught.
As Caitlyn began to back away, she heard a smooth female voice that immediately caught her attention. “Your legs look amazing in that skirt.”
Caitlyn whirled around, eyes widening slightly from shock as she realized who it was that was talking to her. She was even more good looking up close, having a nose piercing and several on her ears. There was even a little face tattoo which said VI on it. Caitlyn couldn’t help but once again have Mel’s words playing back in her brain. You need a bad girl to loosen you up .
She definitely looked the part.
“See something you like?” she grinned, catching Caitlyn in the act of staring at her again.
Caitlyn blinked, deciding to regain her composure and actually speak before she looked like a weirdo. “Excuse me?”
“I said -,” she began to speak.
“I know what you said,” Caitlyn cut her off before the pinkette could repeat the flirty line back to her, “Haven’t you ever heard of hello first?”
“I have. But why bother when I could just get straight to the point?” she shrugged.
“And what point would that be?” Caitlyn raised a brow, more annoyed than flustered at this point.
“That you’re one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever met,” she responded.
Caitlyn rolled her eyes. Unfortunately, her heart did skip a beat at her words but she did her best not to show it. “How many girls have you said that too?”
“Just you.”
“You didn’t say that to the girl over there? The red head you had just been talking to earlier?”
“Sarah? Oh, she’s just a friend.”
“Some friend of yours. You couldn’t think of anything remotely original?”
“You’re just so gorgeous that I’m struggling for material.”
Caitlyn rolled her eyes. “Sure you are. Well, if you’re here because I was staring -.”
“I’m not mad. I’m used to it actually,” she quickly assured Caitlyn with that smug smirk of hers.
“Right. Because you just have women tripping over themselves to get to you,” Caitlyn dryly remarked.
“Well, yeah,” she agreed matter-of-factly.
As attractive as the woman was, her arrogant attitude was an immediate turn off for Caitlyn. She didn’t know how anyone could possibly be around her long enough.
“I’m Vi, by the way,” the pinkette then introduced herself.
Vi . It certainly explained the tattoo on her face.
“I didn’t ask,” Caitlyn replied, resting her hand on her hip.
“And since you don’t want to tell me your name, I’ll just have to make up something on my own. How about… Cupcake?” Vi inquired.
“Cupcake?” Caitlyn repeated, resisting the urge to laugh over how stupid it was. Out of all the things she could’ve said, that was the best she could’ve come up with?
“Since you’re so sweet,” Vi teased.
“I am not sweet,” Caitlyn frowned.
“Yeah, you are,” Vi insisted.
Caitlyn narrowed her eyes. “What are you doing right now? Are you… are you trying to be cute with me? Is that what works for you?”
“Depends. Do you find me absolutely irresistible yet?” Vi responded.
“More like annoying actually. I think you’d be better off with your friend over there. It seems like she’s still eagerly waiting for you. I’m not interested,” Caitlyn shook her head.
“Sure you aren’t, Cupcake,” Vi chuckles, not quite believing her.
“I’m quite serious. I actually have to go now. As riveting as I’m sure this conversation was going to be, I have to cut it short. Good night,” Caitlyn persisted, even handing Vi her empty beer can afterwards before she stormed off towards the door.
This whole party was a bust and she didn’t want to stay any longer.
“See ya around, Cupcake,” Vi called after her.
“I highly doubt it,” Caitlyn responded back.
Although Mel had been her ride, Caitlyn didn’t want to stick around and talk with Vi any longer. She felt a little disappointed, given that she had been actually a little interested in Vi. But that had been ruined the moment she opened her mouth. Caitlyn left the party and ended up getting a taxi back to her apartment, eager to unwind and forget about the failed attempt at letting loose.
And Vi altogether. It wasn’t as though she’d ever be seeing her again… right?
