The Emergency Trial of Morgan Sterling

Summary:

It was a mistake. A rational Morgan functioning at normal levels and using more than one brain cell would just summon her guy to her. But no— stressed, tired, panicking Morgan chose violence. Violence to a degree she had never considered before. Nah, this idiot summoned half of Alex.

Something fun while I write the next couple chapters of nemesis

Work Text:

It was a stupid mistake. A very stupid mistake. But to her credit she hasn’t slept more than four hours in the past month.

Alex left. Alex moved out and was officially ghosting her. It’s…it’s fine, she has bigger problems to deal with.

The first of which only waited a week after Alex left to become a problem. She found that incredibly rude, by the way, and she had told them. Her parents had resumed project turn Morgan into a sidekick or beat her until she dies. Someone get them the Parent of the Year award, they clearly earned it.

They tried to accomplish this by repeatedly kidnapping, torturing and trying to condition her into obedience. Fuck that. She had been escaping so far but now she’s exposed to problem number two.

Alex has pissed a lot of people off in their career as a villain. So has Morgan. It’s normal. Alex is unkillable. She is not. They lived together for years. People who had beef with her avoided her while they were here. They are gone. People still associate her with them. Everyone who has beef with her and a lot of the people that hate Alex are coming for her because nothing in life is easy. If one thing goes wrong, everything goes wrong until she’s back on rock bottom.

So, problem three. She still has her crew to pay. They need the money, most of them rely on this for all their bills. She can’t just abandon them because it’d be easier for her to go into hiding till everything calms down. Because that’s be so much easier. And safer. And it’s so tempting. But no, her henchpeople are really important to her. Maybe if she knew they could get other work… but she doesn’t think that’ll work.

So the situation as a whole is; she’s more paranoid than usual, due to the many kidnappings from many people. She’s sleep deprived, normal but not to this degree. She has to plan and pull off a high paying job and soon. And also there are many, many people that want her dead, not just kidnapped and tortured but really dead. Yeah she’s kinda having a rough month. Rough three months really, but it’s just been getting worse each month so this is the roughest month.

All of this is what lead up the the huge, dumb mistake. Part of it was pure bad luck, but it was for sure not the main source. The heist was going alright, despite the terrible ominous feeling Morgan had been having all day. She knew she was paranoid lately so she ignored it. Mistake number one. Never ignore a bad gut feeling during a heist.

The next thing that happened was proof of that. There was security measures she had not prepped for. She hadn’t even known it existed. She tripped the alarms and froze for a moment.

The next thing was for sure not her fault. A wall near them came down as a hero and villain crashed through it. Someone else’s fight had brought itself right to them. Pro, people won’t be focusing on them. Con, they all immediately are in more danger.

Morgan told her team to start evacuating when the next problem showed up. Alex was there. She had no idea how she should be acting in this situation. Does she pretend she doesn’t know them? Does she yell at them for ignoring her messages? Especially the ones about their enemies coming after her. She settled for trying to extract herself from the whole battlefield as quickly as possible.

This didn’t go as planed. She was better hidden than her team at the moment but somehow Alex looked at her first. They nodded at her then turned away. She didn’t know what to make of that but was distracted quickly.

One of the heroes saw her crew and she swore. She doesn’t know why but Alex was the one who went to arrest them. She was hoping Alex would give them the same chance to run they did her, if that is what they did, but she had to keep moving to stay out of sight.

Everyone froze when they heard a gunshot. Morgan looked in horror, begging to be wrong, and saw one of her henchpeople holding a gun pointed at Alex, who looked unbothered by the rapidly healing hole in their head.

Alex laughed. And laughed. And laughed. Then they grabbed the man and dragged him closer. Alex spoke in a frightening tone. “I was going to let you off easy because you’re Morgan’s but wow you must want to die. I’m sure Morgan will understand what’s about to happen.

She understood. She wasn’t going to let it happen though. That man had children, young children, and a wife whose in and out of the hospital with cancer. There is no way she’s letting him die.

And here is her final mistake. A rational Morgan functioning at normal levels and using more than one brain cell would just summon her guy to her. But no— stressed, tired, panicking Morgan chose violence. Violence to a degree she had never considered before. Nah, this idiot summoned half of Alex.

Yup, half of Alex. The top half, not that that matters. She then shouted run to her employee, then looked at Alex, both over there and in front of her, and vomited.

Everything went nuts after that. Everyone had been staring in silence. Even the people fighting stopped to stare, but evidently vomiting was the signal to react.

Alex did first, “Morgan what the fuck?” And they promptly reformed perfectly healed. One would hope that would solve the problem. One would be wrong. Alex was very nice for someone she just bisected, they rubbed circles on her back as she puked her guts out.

The other heroes reacted with many “Oh my god!”’s and “Are you ok?”’s but that was predictable, the voice that mattered was her brother’s.

“Morgan… we have to arrest you for this. That would have killed Alex if they were anyone else. This. This might make you rank up.”

Her head shot up, face not entirely clean, “I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t Alex, I usually wouldn’t have even done it at all! But Alex was about to kill him and he has a family and he’s my responsibility! I just couldn’t let it happen!” She was panicking. This was what would ruin her? She didn’t even kill anyone! “I stopped a murder, isn’t that supposed to be a good thing?”

“It’s not up to me, I’m sorry.”

“No Chad, please! You know me! You know I don’t want to hurt people! I’m just the annoying D-Tier! Please!” He looked away from her. She started crying.

She looked around desperately, all the heroes were either looking at her with barely veiled fear and disgust or pointedly looking away. In her desperation she even looked to Alex only to see their girlfriend fussing over them while glaring at her. She didn’t have the heart to look at their face.

Morgan ended up dragged to an emergency meeting of heroes from the global alliance. They usually only meet up for world ending threats, like Alex, so she didn’t know why they convened over her.

Her hands were in metal mittens. To keep her from snapping. It was definently overkill. She was terrified. If they see her as a global threat they will probably kill her. She’s so fucked.

When the meeting finally started she felt like she had already lost. She was blindfolded and was unsure of how many people were in the room, or who they were.

“Let us begin. We all know why we are here today, this is the emergency trial and sentencing of one Morgan Sterling, also known as the D-Tier villain Generator.” Morgan didn’t recognize the voice of the person who spoke, they seemed to be in charge so she decided to refer to him as hero in charge. Also, trial and sentencing, so they aren’t even going to take like a day to think about it, she’s super fucked.

“Earlier today she showed the ability to rip the S-Tier in half with what looked like a teleportation power. This alone is unsettling but cross referencing the records of her powers show that not only has this never been documented before, but her teleportation, while limited on frequency of uses, has unlimited range. She is the suspected cause of the S-Tiers escape from the Eternity Area, she has summoned people from across galaxies, she does not need to know where a person is to summon them. Her parents confirmed these facts.” Oh fuck them. Seriously. God, her parents suck so much. But she didn’t know that anyone knew about the Eternity Area thing… they said suspected, she could probably convince them she didn’t do it. As long as Alex doesn’t rat her out. Fuck, that’s entirely possible. Better not to say anything.

“Until today there have been no reported cases of her using her powers to summon anything less than an entire person. We have yet to confirm whether this is a fluke or not.” Then hero in charge turned their attention to her, “Sterling, what say you? Is it a fluke or an aspect of your power you’ve kept hidden?”

The floor was hers apparently. “Neither, exactly. A few years ago Alex and I accidentally swapped powers for about two months and during that time Alex used my powers to kill people. I didn’t even know it was possible until they did. Up till that point I had worked under the same assumption that my parents had, about the limits of my power. I didn’t care when they told me though, because I was never planning to use it that way regardless. My family wanted to treat my power as an emergency escape, I use it as emergency help. If I’m about to die, I summon someone, mainly Alex, to help me. I like being D-Tier and had no intention of ruining it by going around and killing people. Since that point, I had only used my power like that once before today. I was cursed to kill people I cared about and I took Alex’s heart, they just put it back in their chest and broke the curse. I hated it, I apologized for weeks, and I never wanted to do it again. Today was a fluke. I panicked. And I just couldn’t let my employee be killed. I’m responsible for them, their safety is my responsibility to guarantee during missions. Their life is in my hands until the job is over. If Alex was going to kill anyone, it was going to be me. But I panicked and I fucked up. I’m deeply sorry.” She was taking this seriously, how could she not, her future depends on how this meeting goes. The room was silent for a minute, the only sound the stenographer recording every word of this mock trial.

Finally, a different hero spoke, “Well those are nice words, but that’s all they are, words. There is no proof that you haven’t lied and none that you won’t leave this room and then kill everyone in it. You could commit mass murder without getting out of bed, you have to understand why we are skeptical of the words of a villain.” Morgan understood, she just hated it. Also, she didn’t recognize that voice either.

“Doesn’t Amazing Woman have handcuffs of truth? Why not use those?”

Morgan instantly recognized the voice. What the fuck was Alex doing here? Were they here to help her? No, that’s unlikely. They’re probably here because they’re the one she attacked. They can testify against her.

“It’s unimportant whether she ever plans to kill or not. She is susceptible to mind control, and others could use her as a weapon. After todays incident, her power won’t stay hidden, and therefore she is a threat to everyone.”

Morgan was shaken to her core, a mind controlled weapon. Fuck she never thought about that. It’s definitely possible, she’s a villain, she’s heard about the summer warrior. The rumors in the villain world even say that if payed enough, their handler will let anyone use them. Not just their organization. Fuck she really didn’t want that. How many people could she kill in a month if she was being mind controlled? If they removed the smallest deadly thing what would that be? Honestly, the smallest easiest way would probably be a piece of a major artery. Like the femoral one, they’d bleed out in seconds. And that’d weigh what? Less than a pound? Less than an ounce? She could kill entire cities in one day! Fuck that’s horrifying.

She couldn’t stop thinking of almost untraceable ways to kill someone without them knowing what’s wrong until it’s too late. The artery thing would also work with the carotid, she could remove a valve in the heart, or the part of a trachea that covers the path to the lungs while you are swallowing. They’d drown themselves next time they went for a drink. Or just puncture the lungs. Only need a tiny hole for it to stop working. Stop. Stop thinking about it!

“I..I.” She couldn’t think, how the fuck is she supposed to counter that argument when she is now terrified of it? “There has to be a way to make sure someone can’t be mind controlled right? There’s no way that earths mightiest just walk around unprotected!”

“Why would we let a villain know if we did or not? That’d be a security breach.” That sounds like Batdad, very gravely voice.

“BECAUSE I’M A PERSON! I’M HUMAN! And I don’t want to die because someone might mind control me! I’m barely a D-Tier, I only got the rank when I became landlord! I like running around in the jungle with my friend racing to get to the artifacts. I like scaring nosy teens that, quite frankly, are trespassing 90% of the time, with glow in the dark ghost costumes! I like making puzzles for my best friend to solve and play a global game of hide and seek. And I like getting to hang out with my ‘nemesis’ and his adorable spectral doggie every week to play video games and eat pizza because he’s my friend and also lives in the apartment across the hall from me!”

She is panting from shouting but she’s just so scared. She try’s to calm down though. “Because all of that goes away if I rank up, and it definently goes away if I die. Because I had a friend who told me I’m not aloud to die, and they’ll drag me out of hell if I do.” She turns her head in the direction she heard Alex speak. “I’m not sure they still feel that way but for a claim that bold they owe it to me to follow through at least once. If only to prove they actually can and weren’t all talk.”

“When have I ever been all talk? Wait don’t answer that.” She can’t help but laugh when Alex says that.

“I take it that means I still have one get out of hell free card?” She grins.

“No, because you aren’t allowed to die. I don’t know what’s so difficult to understand about that. If someone wants to kill you, then they’re out of luck because you aren’t dying. And any attempts will be met with extreme violence.”

“Bold words for someone who has been avoiding me for months.” She says as she removes the metal mittens. Digital lock, what idiots. They clearly didn’t do enough research. If there was a way she could have gotten cyber fingers without having lost three fingers to a very petty Alex then they’d be perfect. Instead they’re just awesome. She removes her blindfold to see some confused and starting to get ready to fight heroes and a smiling Alex. She was still pissed at them. But right now, she needed some normal.

“Yeah? Three months sucks? Miss eight month jungle adventure?”

“I sent postcards!”

“In code. Which I didn’t have a key to.”

“One, you could have just snapped and translated it, two, Barnaby can translate it. I figured you’d do one of those, not my fault you just sat and pouted for months.” They had had this argument before. About the postcards.

“Well excuse me for not guessing what I was supposed to do!”

“You literally complain every time I don’t remember you can solve every problem with your powers. You can’t yell at me because you do it too! I’ll be happy to remind you if you ever forget that fact.” She undid the bindings keeping her in the chair.

“STOP! Morgan Sterling you are still under arrest! If you continue to behave like this things will only get worse for you.” Oh she thinks she recognizes hero in charge now that she can see him. He runs the school for abandoned kids with powers. Kids who’s families didn’t want them around anymore and it’s because of the powers they developed. Like kids with fire powers or life draining or mind reading. Some people really can’t stand that. What was his name? Dr Y? Something like that. Either way…

“Can you not? We’re kinda having a moment here.” She was ignored.

“How did you even do that?” A different hero asks.

She holds up her hand and wiggles the fingers, “cybernetic fingers, got them when someone crushed my hand during movie night.”

“I told you it would happen and you still offered so your fault.”

“You were being a big baby and you said it’d help you. I thought you were being dramatic when you said that you’d crush my bones to dust the second something scary happened.”

“When have I been dramatic?” They see her expression and interrupts before she could respond, “Don’t answer that.”

“I’m pretty sure everyone in this room has a ‘Alex is dramatic’ story.” She joked.

“I said don’t answer!” They looked embarrassed.

“What about the time you-“ a hand covered her mouth.

“Don’t answer.”

“Wait I’m confused, how does the movie factor into Alex breaking your hand?” Aww she loves the younger heroes sometimes. They’re bold and stupid. They also focus on the fun drama instead of the serious shit. She saw one once answer a question of what intel they gathered by describing everyone’s relationship drama like a soap opera.

“Wellllll, Alex hates scary movies so when I suggested what really was kind of an action movie that featured a monster in it. There were plenty of explosions, things going boom mean action movie. I think the movie was Tremor if that matters. Alex refused to watch until I offered to let them hold my hand for comfort for the scary parts, they said it’s not their fault if my hand is destroyed AFTER sitting and grabbing my hand. They did crush my hand I lost three fingers, but it wasn’t dust so that’s good. I didn’t speak to them for a month and they got me cyber fingers.”

Alex had their face in their hands standing next to her. They were softly whining about their reputation.

“Alex, you went hero, your reputation is already shit.” She laughed. They glared.

“Yeah? Well yours is about to skyrocket. And I know you like to stay off the radar.” They shot back.

“Shit you’re right. There’s no way out of this is there. I’m ranking up.” She pouts. Then to the heroes she says, “Now what? I rank up after you make my mind safe? You throw me into a jail cell for the rest of my life? Eternity Area? Keep me D and insist that todays incident was a hoax? I like that last one, can it be that one?”

“Or we can chop off your hands and remove the problem entirely.” Her mom said. Her mom said! “You can’t use your power without snapping. And it has to be your skin, you never could do it when you were wearing gloves. You really are so disappointing dear, your power finally grows but it’s only in a way that hurts people. Maybe you were destined to be a villain.”

Morgan hates her parents. She does, she knows it, and she doesn’t expect any love from them. She knows that they haven’t been nice to her since her powers came. But for whatever reason sometimes it still feels like a punch in the gut when she hears her mother say these things.

Morgan knows she shouldn’t even think of her parents as anything other than her DNA donors. Especially since she met Alex’s parents, those are real parents. And they actually care about her even without Alex around. They call her at least once a month, they talk for hours when they do, they ask her to come visit, especially for holidays. She’s still in their will for fucks sake. Where it matters, they are the closest thing she has to parents.

That doesn’t change two decades of trauma and need for approval from someone who will never give it. Her mother is terrible, but Morgan still, deep down, wants her approval. This is why instead of arguing what her mother said, she just shuts up, and lowers her head.

Alex doesn’t though, “Whoa that is way too far. I can make her mind control proof.” Snap! “There, done. She’s safe. No chance of weapon of mass destruction here. Also, did you not consider that she could become a very good doctor using her power? She’d always be able to remove tumors, even if they’re ‘inoperable’. It’s not explicitly evil, her power.”

She could breathe again. She looked up at Alex. Tears made her vision wobbly but it didn’t matter. They just- so easily too! Why? Why are they being so nice to her? Now, after months! And after what they said to her! She can’t take it, are they a hero or not, do they hate her or not?

“I don’t get it! What are you doing? What the fuck are you playing at? I can’t take it! Why are you even here? It made sense when I thought you were gonna testify as the victim but why are you helping me?” Her voice was raw and there were tears running down her cheeks.

“Why? Morgan-“

“No! You left! You told me I’m worthless and you left! You were done with me! You can’t just come back like nothing happened!” She shouldn’t be screaming at them, not right now. She’s still on trial, they could take back they’re help, she needs to stop and apologize. She just can’t though!

“You can’t just waltz back into my life and act like the last few months were just a bad dream. Especially right now. I can’t trust you anymore, there is no reason for you to help me right now, you have to be up to something.”

“Morgan of course I’m helping! I don’t know what-“

“The only even remotely plausible reason for you to help me is that your mom told you to.” She let out a slightly hysterical laugh, “But last time she called me she said she still didn’t want to talk to you so that’s probably not it. By the way, your parents still like me more than you. Yes, that’s an incredibly petty thing to point out right now but my real mom hates me and the fact your parents don’t still baffles me. I’m in the will, and you aren’t for fucks sake. I’m going there for Christmas and your mom told me to tell you you’re uninvited ! You really messed up, they’re disappointed you’re a hero again. They said something about you regretting it later, and not realizing what you gave up. I don’t know what they mean. Hey, do you think that if I’m killed here, maybe they’ll put you in the will?”

If Morgan wasn’t laser focused on Alex she’d have noticed the odd look on everyone’s faces as they contemplated Alex’s parents. There was further confusion the more she spoke about them. Disappointed in being a hero? Again??? When has Alex been a hero before this? They talk to a random D more than their child? Yes she’s most likely an ex but why are they still in contact with her? Why is she in the will??? Alex isn’t?!

Morgan felt done. She cried and screamed and all that energy has left her leaving her tired and uncaring. Alex is probably doing something but she’s not going to be a part of it. She’s not going to let herself be in it. Because she was done, if anyone wanted her to care again she needed a nap or coffee.

“I don’t care about what you’re doing here, if that makes you sad, go cry about it to your girlfriend. I’m done. Hey heroes! What are you doing with me? I’d really like to go home and sleep for a week. I literally haven’t slept in a month and I don’t think I’ve eaten since… what day is today? Fuck when did it happen too? I haven’t eaten since Barnaby threw a snickers at me in the hallway, I don’t know when. If I can’t go home can I have coffee? It’s coffee or I pass out.”

Alex wanted to argue about the other stuff but is now very concerned for a very different reason. They aren’t alone either, half the heroes are horrified at her words and are no longer surprised that an incident occurred. It’s just amazing she wasn’t dead. She probably hadn’t made a rational thought or decision in weeks. And, being heroes, a lot of their warm soft hearts forgave her and want to help her. This is not something she even noticed, let alone planned, she wasn’t looking for sympathy, she was just looking for coffee.

“Why the fuck weren’t you sleeping?” Alex asked her. Unfortunately for them, when she said she was done, she decided she was going to ignore them. So she didn’t respond. “Hey! Answer me!” Still no response, despite Alex now standing in front of her. “Did you pass out with your eyes open or something?” She turned her head away from them. They realized what she was doing, “You can’t ignore me forever.” She bets she can last at least three months. “Ugh! Someone else ask her why she isn’t taking care of herself, now.”

One of the teen heroes, who was loving the drama of what looked like a fight between ex’s after a nasty break up, volunteered to get closer to the event. “Hey Generator? What the hell? Just go to sleep.”

“I can’t kid. Last time I slept I woke up somewhere else chained to the wall. Gotta stay awake and watch my back.”

About five people (Alex and the teenagers) all yelled “What the fuck?!” at once.

“Yeah, it’s really inconvenient, having to worry about getting kidnapped, or taken for prisoner to be tortured, or jumped at a random street corner. All the time, fucking head on a swivel all the time. My attackers were pretty much all A-Tier too, so that hardly was fair. And I had to worry about paying my workers, all of which depend on my paycheck to feed their families. So no sleep. All this shit started up three months ago, wonder why.” Alex flinched. “I ran out of groceries pretty quickly and every time I went to get more, I’d never even make it to the store. Barnaby got me food a few times and I ordered delivery too, until someone drugged my pizza. That’s just rude. And then I just kinda lived on coffee after that.”

“You’re going to kill yourself doing that shit someday and then I’ll actually have to drag your dumbass back out of hell. What the fuck is wrong with your life?” Alex said horrified.

“Hmmmm, at least half the people who hurt me said something along the lines of they can’t hurt the S-Tier but they can hurt me so I get to be the Alex understudy. Or stuntwoman might work better. If someone asked, I guess I’d say Alex is what’s wrong with my life right now.” Again, Alex flinched but they were also furious.

“Give me names, I’ll kill them. Kid, ask for the names.” Everyone else in the room shouted not to do that but Alex is a bigger threat so they did.

“I have no idea, it’s not like I know every single person Alex has ever pissed off.” Morgan noticed her mother looking pleased, probably at the fact Morgan didn’t rat her out. She wasn’t gonna, but that look and the comment earlier… well if Morgan’s going down today she’s taking her parents with her.

“I knew two of the people who kept kidnapping me. In fact, they were the first ones, kinda opened the floodgates. They also tortured me. Ones right there.” She pointed right at her mom. “You know it was very interesting hearing you preach about morals earlier when you are the one who drugged my pizza and welded my shackles around my wrists. Dad let me hang from the ceiling for days while my arms slowly started to tear from my body. You told me I have two options. Die or be a sidekick. It was kinda funny, because clearly you don’t have morals. If you had my power you’d have already killed me and framed it as an accident. Oh no she got hit too hard during training and no one knew about the internal bleeding until it was too late. Or maybe that’s not it, you could still be at fault for a training accident. An undiagnosed heart problem took our daughter from us, that’s why we are starting a charity to help children with heart problems! That seems more your style.” She glared at her mother, knowing that is exactly how things would have gone. They gave up on her the second they decided she’d be a sidekick. Sidekicks die young after all.

My style is different. My style is to annoy the shit out of people. Ding dong drone them, glitter in shampoo bottles, reset all their passwords, delete their twitter after a bunch of weird fake posts. That’s my style. I’m not a threat, I’m a half dead gremlin with one foot in the grave at all times. The worst thing I’ve done to people is summon Alex but that’s in self defense and I can’t control what they do when I summon them. No the worst thing I’ve done to humanity is continuing to take care of their dumb ass and not leaving them in the bear trap every time they trigger it. But hey, that’s not my problem anymore! It’s their girlfriends! And you all, I guess. Can I leave now?

Actually, she has an idea. “Wait. Alex. Yeah I’m talking to you. Actually I’m threatening you. If you don’t make everyone outside of this room forget what happened today I’m posting your baby pictures on the internet.” She sees the panic.

“What? No! Where did you even get those?!”

“Hahaha! Your parents still love me and that means I still have access to ALL the scrapbooks! Your dad is the best!”

“Dad no! He can’t!”

“He did! And I already have the copies ready to post at literally a wave of my hand!”

“You’re bluffing!”

She raised a brow and maintained eye contact as she flicked her wrist. “Posted.”

They immediately pulled out their phone and swore.

“Now are you going to do what I want? Or do we have to go to your high school pics? And you know exactly which ones I’m talking about.” She was so happy they called her bluff, she really wanted a chance to threaten them with Superior.

“No, you win. You said everyone outside of this room forgets today? Why not include the room?”

“Because my mom is never kidnapping me ever again.” She glared at her mother. “And I want people to remember that. I need her to remember that, so I can sleep.”

“Ha, no, you think that’s still a problem? No, no one is going to kidnap you ever again. Or fucking torture you, especially because of me. You can eat and sleep in peace.” There was a manic look in their eyes.

“You’re up to something. There is no goddamn way you are actually a hero, for so many reasons. Is your girlfriend that good? Because damn, if it’s just for the sex then she must be the best in the goddamn universe.” Seriously, pussy that could change god. She kinda wishes she could bang Alex’s girlfriend, it has to be unnaturally good.

“What? I’m totally a hero.” They said unconvincingly. Morgan noticed a lot of heroes rolling their eyes. So they don’t believe it either. But if they call it out, they go back to killing them, so no hero is gonna be the idiot who dies ruining it for everyone. If they go back to being a villain it doesn’t negatively effect her so she has no reason to not call them out. She’s not gonna push too hard.

“You literally asked for a list of people to kill less than five minutes ago. It’s ok if this is a scheme, just wish you bothered telling your partner in crime before you left. Also you said some really mean shit when you left and I do not forgive you for that. But I want to go home so…” They were both gone and in the apartment almost as soon as she said it. “Cool, and has everyone forgot?”

“Yeah now go to sleep before I make you.”

She laughed but started walking to her room, “Will you be here when I wake up?”

“Maybe. I don’t know, go to sleep.”

She woke up twelve hours later starving. There was no Alex but there was a very detailed note about their plan and a thorough apology. Her kitchen was also restocked. Idiot. Well, she apparently had to wait for a while for the plan to finish but she would see them before that because she’s best man at a murder wedding. Fantastic. Does this mean she’s planing the bachelor party? Scary escape room with Ohio and Barnaby! Alex’ll hate it. It’ll be great. She grabs some food while she thinks about what goes in to a wedding and what best men do. Well Alex certainly made the next few months interesting. And seeing as there is no news report on her ranking up, they kept their word. This month was definently gonna be better than the last three.

Notes:

The idea of teen heroes being incapable of being 100% serious in official settings is just so much fun to me. Like the young avengers or teen titans, they don’t want to be yelled at but they are all texting eachother the whole meeting. And Morgan likes them because teenagers with authority are automatically chaotic.

To anyone curious, I actually wrote this before I ever started nemesis. My inspiration was the thought what if Morgan accidentally caught the heroes attention. And while working on this I thought what if it was on purpose and that became nemesis. I got so focused on that story this one was stuck in editing for a while. Oops.
