Work Text:
Vlad was angry, wither with himself or at someone else; he didn’t know. Hell he might have been angry at the situation itself. Either way Vlad Masters paced his office back and forth. His rage growing the more he thought.
“How could I have missed this?” He grumbled to himself. Stroking his goatee in his frustration.” HOW!” He growled. Vlad had done research. Checked the backgrounds of both Jack and Maddie's kids back when he hosted the College reunion. He checked everything about them, granted he didn’t look to deeply; but if he had he would have known!
If only he had looked more closely into Daniel’s medical records instead of just glancing over them for any allergies or past injuries. Maybe things would have ended up differently between the both of them, maybe. However there was no use focusing on the ‘what if's’ or the ‘maybe's’. It was pointless. He wasn’t Clockwork after all. He couldn’t change time. No matter how much he wished he could.
He stopped a moment to look into his fireplace. Rubbing his temple he sighed and excepted that that wasn’t an option. After all Clockwork was an all knowing entity and could, would and will avoid him. Just like he has been ever since he first learned of his existence.
“No point in trying that.” He finally concluded. Walking over to his chair he sat down with a grunt. Reaching over to his side table Vlad picked up his tablet and looked over the words on the document again. Wondering for perhaps a brief moment that he had read it wrong. That he was wrong and had simply read it to fast and made an assumption. Jumped to a false conclusion.
No such luck it would seem.
In front of him on his screen Vlad reread Daniel’s birth certificate. He read Jack and Maddie’s full names on the lines where the names of his mother and father were to be. He read the doctors name. Vlad even read over his weight and time of birth till he realized he was stalling and mentally berated himself for doing so.
Danny Fenton; born- December 24th, gender- Female.
Glaring at the screen for what felt like an eternity Vlad turned off the tablet and tried his best to suppress his urge to throw it into the fireplace. He was a prideful man, and he prided himself on many things. His looks, his intelligence, his business and sense of detail to name a few of the qualities he liked the most. He however, no matter what Danielle thought; could not take pride in making a young woman suffer.
His mother raised him to be a gentleman. And if she could see what he had done to Danny she would be so horrified and angry with him. He didn’t even want to think about how many times she would smack him with that old wooden spoon of hers. Vlad stood and tossed the electric device onto his chair. He didn’t want to be thinking about that.
He would much rather be thinking about how he could possibly fix this particular issue and put it behind him. Though he doubted it would be as simple as that. He has done too much, said to many things. Both to her and to the people around her. Simply bringing forth an olive branch would never work. Not for long and certainly not without raising suspicion.
But he deserved that he supposed with a sigh. What felt like the millionth sigh that night. Things will have to be different. No matter what he chose to do, and no matter if Danny believes him or not. He knew that things could not continue the way they have been. Definitely not an option!
Walking over to the bar, Vlad poured himself a generous quantity of burden. Turning to the windows behind his desk he stared at the forest behind his castle and the bright city that lay just beyond. He stayed there for hours it felt like, Vlad wasn’t sure. It was however long enough for the already setting sun to set and for the city to light up in a glorious nightly display of lights.
It seemed to be long enough for him to come up with a course of action. He was by no means happy with it. For now he will keep his distance and let her come to him. It’s by no means a perfect plan of action, however it will give him more time to collect himself. Perhaps even work on himself because he could not let their present relationship continue the way it has.
“Absolutely not" Vlad muttered to himself as he turned from the windows. Setting down his empty glass he sat down at his desk and started up the computer. Vlad pulled up his calendar, notes and Google. For the next few hours he did research. Looking up possible therapists, anger management techniques, and possible ways he could calm himself that were not Yoga or Metitation. Come now Google, work with me!
His tasks complete Vlad shut down his computer with a quick email to his assistant to schedule an appointment with a highly recommended therapist he found in his area. Things will get better. For him and Danielle. Briefly he humored the idea of leaving Jack Fenton alone. Only to have his irritation and resentment towards the man bubble up.
One step at a time Vladimir, one step at a time.
