A/U : A world where Hollanov breakup before they even get together

There is no version of "them" that survives the real world. Shane has convinced himself of that. He’s traded the possibility of holding Ilya’s hand in a silent art gallery for the right to hoist a trophy in a screaming arena. He sees the end coming even if Ilya doesn't, so he steps up to be the villain the one to call timeout on their impossible fantasy. But looking at the wreckage in Ilya’s expression as he says the words, Shane realizes he hasn't saved them from anything. He’s just destroyed the only thing that mattered.

    Summary

Ilya is always thinking about things. The upcoming trade deadline and how it might shake up the team. His last call with his father. Freckles.

What he is not thinking about is how sometimes cars ignore pedestrian walk signs.

And he is definitely not thinking, when as they are wheeling him towards emergency surgery, he asks them to call the one person he always feels safe with.

    -
Or, pre-relationship, circa situationship, Ilya gets hit by a cab in midtown New York (embarrassing) and asks the hospital to call Shane Hollander (more embarrassing).

    Summary

It turns out that liquidating a life in Boston is easy. You sell the high-status clutter, keep the LaFerrari for the sake of nostalgia, and buy a Victorian house in Ottawa because it makes your boyfriend’s eyes light up.
The hard part is everything else.
Safe inside his defensive walls of silence, Ilya is perfectly content treating his new locker room like an awkward guest. But between David and Yuna Hollander invading his kitchen, a star-struck rookie who needs an intervention, and a gruelling, exhausting climb toward a Stanley Cup, Ilya is forced to figure out how to actually lead, and worse, how to let a family catch him when he falls.

    Summary

In this world, Yuna Hollander starts noticing long before the NHL draft is even on the horizon. The way Shane studies Ilya Rozanov’s game like it is the most fascinating puzzle he has ever seen. The way he remembers every detail about him but forgets to call his own girlfriend. Yuna has spent her entire career spotting patterns, and this one is impossible to ignore.

She does not confront him. She does not push. Instead, Yuna waits. Through junior tournaments, draft hype, and the start of the most famous rivalry in hockey, she quietly keeps watch over her son and the boy he cannot stop thinking about. When the truth finally comes out, it will not surprise her. After all, a good mother pays attention.

Or: Yuna notices very early that Shane has a type. From that moment on, in every room they share, she watches him carefully and wonders if all the evidence points to two simple conclusions. Shane Hollander is gay, and he is hopelessly in love with Ilya Rozanov.

    Summary

Shane and Ilya attend Jackie's birthday dinner. Before they arrive, Shane reminds Ilya to behave. What Shane doesn't realize is that some part of Ilya still remembers exactly what "behave" used to mean. When Jackie serves a homemade Russian meal, a simple dinner becomes a painful walk through memories of his mother, his father, and a childhood he'd rather forget.

Did Ruby like the Solyanka? Did she prefer something else? Did Hayden and Jackie know her favorite food? Probably. They seemed like the kind of parents who remembered things like that. Would they get angry if the twins misbehaved at the table? Would they yell? Would they slam their hands against the table? Did Hayden ever—
