There’s a strange tradition in Sion’s family. It goes like this:
Every year on your birthday, you must gain something and lose something before midnight, or misfortune will follow you for an entire week.
Nobody knows where it started. His grandmother swears it has always worked. And every family member has their own story about it.
Even Sion had experienced it himself.
Once, when he was little, he got sick right after his birthday and spent a miserable week in bed. Another year, his pet fish died.
There was also the unfortunate toothbrush incident. To this day, nobody lets him live that one down. So even if Sion thinks the whole thing sounds ridiculous… he still does it every year.
The problem was that this year, fate seemed annoyingly determined to keep all of Sion’s belongings attached to him.
