He has always known what it is, has known it since before he could name it and has known it while being entirely unwilling to name it, has carried it for years in the same careful undeclared way he carries everything that matters most to him: packed efficiently, nothing unnecessary, tucked below the surface where it can’t be questioned or asked about.
Yoongi is not naming it now.
He is absolutely not naming it in a storage room with his hand on Jimin’s hip and his cock buried in him and the peak building at the base of his spine with insistence that can’t be deterred much longer, because some things are better held than spoken, because some things change shape when you put them into air.
Because fourteen years of not saying it has its own existential framework and balance, and he’s not ready to look at what happens to the foundational walls if he does.

“He’s not coming back,” says Bucky, before Banner has to try to couch it softly, or spare Bucky’s assumed feelings. It’s a courtesy Bucky doesn’t need. His feelings have seemed very far away since Steve left. “I know.”

Bucky is doing fine after the Blip. He has his amends, he has his exit strategies, he goes to therapy. Steve's gone, but that's fine, Bucky can deal with that, even if he can't deal with feeling like a ghost in the apartment that Steve left behind. But when Steve returns, they'll both have to deal with how to rebuild a friendship and a home that are haunted by the ghosts of who they used to be. Their methods of doing so are perhaps less than ideal, what with how they involve more sex and stealthy surprise interior decoration than any actual communication. Maybe that's all they need to make a new home together.

jimin gets off the bus in a remote village on a december afternoon with nothing but a duffel bag and hair cut short enough that he barely recognizes himself in windows.
the inn costs more than he can afford and the mechanic hiring probably shouldn't trust him, but somehow he ends up with a key to a room above the garage and an eight-year-old asking if he likes legos.
the village is small. yoongi asks fewer questions than jimin expects. winter is cold but the work keeps his hands busy and his mind quiet.
he wasn't looking for this. a place to stay. people who might become something like family. an alpha who smells like burnt wood and looks at him like he's worth the trouble.
but sometimes the things that save you are the ones you never saw coming.
