Summary
“That’s— good,” Madelaine says, haltingly, as though unsure how to proceed when not getting met with an argument. Vesper always feels just the tiniest bit triumphant whenever she makes the older girl falter.
She turns on her seat then, away from her vanity and instead facing the bed in which Vesper is perched on. She looks the other girl up and down, frowning as she mutters, “Twenty one, huh.”
“So?”
She scowls, “I cannot believe you’re older than me, even by a technicality.”
“Because I’m not,” Vesper says easily, “You’ve lived so much more than me — and I’m not calling you old, I’m just stating a fact,” she adds when Madelaine opens her mouth to try and start another argument.
Maybe Vesper isn't half-human, half-bat. Maybe the Reverand was right and she's always been half-nothing. Maybe she wants more things than she should, and maybe she doesn't have a choice but to deal with that. She just wishes everything wasn't so needlessly complicated.

Summary
Madelaine drops her coat, heels and red-tinted sunglasses on a nearby armchair before commanding, “Make room,” as she drops horizontally on the couch, throwing her legs over Vesper’s lap.
Vesper obeys without second thought, her hands coming to rest on top of Madelaine’s knees. “Comfortable?” She asks, which Madelaine would consider flirting if it came from anyone else, but not Vesper. Never from Vesper.
It’s as infuriating as it is a relief.
A part of Madelaine feels like she should hate Vesper. Another wants to sink her teeth into the other girl's throat just to see what happens.

Summary
“You should know you’re not the only one who’s been staring, darling.”
Shadowheart’s eyes snapped to Astarion’s waiting smirk, her scowl forming in less than a heartbeat. “What in the hells are you talking about?” she demanded, despite unfortunately having a pretty good idea of the subject already. At least Astarion had the decency to approach her when she was by herself.
“Please. You’re very perceptive. You must have noticed the lovestruck eyes Gale keeps making at our fearless leader when he thinks no one is looking. Or the — shall we say, intense way Lae’zel stares at them after hard won battles. Even our dear Blade of Frontiers seems quite smitten as of late—”
“And all that concerns me, how?”
“Don’t be coy, dear. It’s an awful look on you.” Astarion’s eyes were practically sparkling.
“And why, do tell, are you so interested in this matter?”
His smile somehow widened even more as he proclaimed, “Oh, the drama entertains me greatly.”
(Or: a Shadowheart character study that goes through all three Acts, and how a campaign could look like if Larian had let me make my Tav a Harper from the beginning.)

Summary
Kristen slumps back against the wall, wishing she had a Yerba Mate, or else a goddess. She glances over at Kipperlilly, who hops up onto a nearby desk, pointedly ignoring Kristen. Her feet don’t quite touch the ground from this position, and her platform Mary Janes swing slightly over the linoleum. Kristen wonders, briefly, if they’ve ever crushed a rat.
“Is it stressful, being so perfect all the time?”
Something passes over Kipperlilly. Kristen can’t read it for the life of her. Her eyes gleam under the shitty fluorescent lighting.
“Do you think I’m perfect?” she asks delicately, like it’s a dare.//
The thing about Kristen is that she's a mess. The thing about Kipperlilly is that she's not. The thing about hating someone is that it's a lot like loving them. The thing about competing with someone is that you think about them all the damn time.

the night of the fight.
ask prompt! combined a couple here <3 this uh. was supposed to be shorter. oops.
35. kissing their bruises/scars
55. tracing the lines on the other's hand---
She asks, too, about the scar in the center of Marya's palm. The one that is not quite healed and looks a bit worse for wear, jagged and angry, but does not seem to hurt her as much as would be expected. When Marya cannot answer her, she does not push. She will learn it later, when Marya is ready — and if she is never ready, that too will be okay.
She does, however, press her lips against the back of Marya's hand, lingering just shy of the wound edge. It looks like it went clean through, at one point. When she glances up, mouth still against the skin, Marya's gaze is so, so soft.

Summary
"Well, Olethra is a sweet girl," Marya finally says, when they have tired themselves out with their banter. She has not been able to stop smiling the entire while. Her cheeks ache from it. "The two of you are adorable. You will do great things together."
She watches as Ludmila bites her lip, furrowing her brows. "You think so?"
"I know so," Marya assures. And then she adds, with a wink, "Soon enough, you will not even need me anymore!"
Marya expects— well, a playful response. Laughter, perhaps. Or Ludmila shoving at her again, threatening to push her off the bed.
What she does not expect, though, is dead silence. Thick as smog, it engulfs the air of the room with a swiftness that stuns her, choking up her throat.
(Or: Finally reunited, Ludmila proves to Marya how much she wants her; needs her.)
