Summary
This story stems from a variation to canon. Instead of Charlotte Lucas engaging Mr. Collins in order to present herself as a potential wife, here she removes Mr. Collins from Longbourn to Lucas Lodge before Lizzie throws caution to the wind and murders him (so to speak).
Mr. Collins, having been rejected by Lizzie, then decides to propose to Charlotte, only for her to turn him down flat. She then decides to educate him as to why she said no. Not for her own sake, but so that he stops spouting such rubbish, and becomes a better man.
Collins himself finds that he is intrigued by her pointed questions, and so (with her father's permission), the two of them start a correspondence...

Somewhere between the fire mage and prison, Jaskier finds himself…probably not *dead*, exactly, but definitely some kind of spirit…apparition…definitely-not-a-ghost thing. Unfortunately, whatever he is - which is not a ghost - he can't communicate with the corporeal world, which means his...whatever the fuck Geralt is to him now thinks he's dead.
Which he isn't.
Most likely.
Jaskier now has to navigate a sort of Otherworld of just delightful beings, figure out what he is - besides definitely not dead - and get back to (Geralt) the world where he can touch (Geralt) things again…and probably do his bit to stop the entire Continent from collapsing into a cesspit of genocide and atrocity while he's at it.
(No, you aren't losing your mind, the title has changed. Yes, there is a reason.)

Jaskier had climbed the trail up to the keep before with Geralt and it had definitely taken a lot less time. (The Witchers themselves called it ‘the killer’, and they had the nerve to call Jaskier dramatic). But Geralt was only pretending he wasn’t ill, and Jaskier himself was admittedly tired and sore and hungry again. The bread and dried fruit they’d bought for lunch with their last orrens barely made a dent in it.
After a hard year, Jaskier and Geralt head up to Kaer Morhen for the winter to rest and recover. But they aren’t the only guests, and Jaskier rummages around in everybody’s closets until he finds the ghosts.
