Mu Qing’s fingers brush against the side of Feng Xin’s hand. Feng Xin jerks away like he’s been burnt.
It’s mortifyingly silent for half a beat. Mu Qing can feel his face turning red. He looks away.
“Sorry. I have to go,” Feng Xin blurts out, and before Mu Qing can manage to speak, he’s dashing away into the crowds. Mu Qing does nothing but watch, bewildered.

“I know you’re not stealing,” Feng Xin says, bewildered. “This is your own orchard.”
“No, it’s Xie-” Mu Qing’s eyebrows draw together in confusion, and he puts a hand to his forehead. “It’s- No, it’s mine.”
“It’s yours,” Feng Xin repeats. He puts a cautious hand on Mu Qing’s shoulder, relieved when it’s not rebuffed. “You are the crown prince of Xianle, dianxia.”
“Dianxia,” the prince says, tasting the word. He stares at Feng Xin, his expression unreadable. “That’s… me.”
“Yes,” Feng Xin says softly. “It’s you.”
(or, Feng Xin is the bodyguard of His Highness Mu Qing and all he knows is that something feels wrong.)

Mu Qing is never late. Ever.
Mu Qing is, in fact, known for his impeccable punctuality.
Unlike his perpetually late friends, especially Xie Lian, Mu Qing doesn’t only calculate the time needed to reach a destination, he also includes the time it takes to find parking, walking time from the parking lot to the meeting place, and some buffer in case shit happens - you never know when you’ll forget your keys or take a wrong turn.
Being early for every meet-up is an art he has perfected over years of wrong turns, missing keys, and missed trains.
But despite being the most punctual person on earth, life decided to fuck him in the ass today.

“I…I need your help.” The voice on the other side of the phone said begrudgingly. Feng Xin could just see Mu Qing's defeated face as he said those words, an unconscious smile grew on his lips at the imaginary sight.
“Say that again?” Feng Xin teased the other man.
“Shut up, Feng Xin!” Mu Qing hissed, but he stopped himself from insulting Feng Xin further and took a deep breath. “I'm being serious, I…I really can't do this on my own, I've been here for like an hour already and I haven't made any progress…” Mu Qing said, a depressing tremble in his voice when he said how long he'd been there. The tremble immediately piqued Feng Xin's interest and he marked his place in his notes and sat back to give his full attention to Mu Qing.

Mu Qing bites off more than he can chew and swallows his pride to ask his long-term yearning victim, Feng Xin, for help. Shots get shot which doesn't go particularly well, but they can't have a falling out now! Feng Xin takes matters into his own hands to try and rekindle🩷!! The rekindling goes a little too well? Maybe?
