Working at the customs office customer service in a hotbed of corruption such as Gotham is quite absurd if you really stop to think about it. Customers include: a sausage factory, a pharmaceutical wholesale firm, an insurance company. Paper, paper, paper. Sometimes, a suspicious delivery is seized for an additional examination. Then there’s also the psychiatrist from the forensics unit at Arkham State Hospital, whose deliveries get called in for examination really damn often. He’s unbearably annoying. A complete asshole.

Moving out on your own at 18 is rough. In a stroke of good fortune, you land a decent job that might just be able to make it work out. It's easy, pays well enough, and you even make friends with some coworkers. Of course, having a crush on their mysterious boss who is twice your age certainly makes things more complicated.
