Summary
After a year of living with the ghosts, Alison had begun to think of them as her rather eccentric roommates, and even (in some cases) her friends. She’d begun to notice small things about them, too - things that made her smile, things that annoyed her and sometimes things she decided she just didn’t want to know about.
But some ghosts had more interesting (and more puzzling) quirks - things that seemed strange on their own, but, when put together, made a big picture that could actually end up explaining a lot.The Captain, for example.
(Basically, Alison wonders whether the Captain's 'quirks' are more than just quirks, and wants to help him figure out how. Am I projecting? just a little)

It was hard for Alison to remember sometimes that Kitty was one of the older ghosts, at least in terms of actual time spent dead. She was so young physically, and so sweetly naive, that it was all too easy to get caught up in that facade and forget that the cheerful, friendly young woman was also a centuries-old specter who died well before her time.
Even the most optimistic soul would have to have a lifetime’s worth of regrets after all of that.
Or: Kitty and the Captain have a heart to heart, with Alison and the gang not far behind.

Summary
The Ghosts of 'Button House' have always suspected that the Captain was not always telling them everything, but they never had the strength to bring it up. One day, Alison accidentally lets slip that the Captain may be homosexual, which invites Lady Fanny Button to argue against such an "abomination" amongst humanity.
Having overheard, and after being defended by two of his friends, the Captain confronts his feelings after bottling them up for decades and learns, slowly and with the help of Pat, to accept himself.
Admissions slowly but surely lead to further admissions of affection.

Summary
During his normal evening walk, The Captain notices a commotion coming from a conversation happening between the other ghosts. It turns out Pat had a bit of a confession to make about something he did in life. The confession stirs something within the captain, and makes him wonder if he may have been more curious about the idea than he allowed himself to be in his mortal coil. Pat, of course, isn't opposed to the idea of exploring with someone new.
