And sure enough, like Vash was riding some liquor-ridden premonition — at the last block of the city, turn the corner bathed in florescent light in a blinding shade of burnt-out pink. It actually hurts to look at.
“There!” Vash says, pointing to the neon sign.
Wolfwood squints his eyes, concentrates really hard and the scenery focuses into his vision. The setting: the Lonesome Dove, a fine establishment surrounded by the rusted remains of a wrought iron fence. Within it — three stories of crumbling stucco and open-faced rebar peeking through.
Wolfwood follows Vash's finger. The “V” of the neon sign makes a heart.
Wolfwood groans, hobbling with Vash to the front door.

It's a scene that has been rehearsed countless times, but today, unbeknownst to him, is opening night for the big magic show. Sitting in the audience are you and me, the lucky front row ticket holders to the Twilight Zone.

Vash sighs heavily, putting his foot down. Somehow, everything tucks back neatly where it came from. “It just makes me feel better about myself, alright? It’s the only good looking thing on me.” Wolfwood goes to argue, but Vash stops him. “And yeah, a little bit.”
By the time Wolfwood can think of something to say, Vash has his pants back on. “Are you getting any more?”
“Why, you wanna see how much I can take?”
Wolfwood reaches behind him to unlatch the door. “Since you’re offering.”
