And the thing is this: Dazai always smells a little bit like blood. Atsushi doesn't say anything about it, because he has the feeling Dazai would sooner die for real than talk about it, and in any case the implications frighten Atsushi. It's not a lot of blood, and really, the scent is muddied most days, dried out or stifled beneath the cheap cologne Dazai favors.
But this blood is not dried out or stifled. It is thick and pungent and fresh, so fresh that Atsushi can taste it—can taste—
“I am going to open the door,” Atsushi warns, though he can barely hear his own voice past the blood rushing to his head and that endless, endless dripping.
Atsushi finds Dazai after a suicide attempt and discovers that knowing someone is suicidal does not make it any less terrifying.

He carries him in, just like when he was a baby, but now Matty’s nine years old and on pain pills to keep him from feeling the agony that’d kept them both awake at first. He’s silent where he lay against Jack’s shoulder, clinging to his neck, his little legs wrapped around Jack’s waist. One arm is wrapped up in a cast from landing so hard on the pavement that it fractured, and one of his toes is splinted to another. Jesus. Jack's baby with a cast and a splint.
Not to mention the blindness.
Jack brings Matty home.

"Last I checked, but he may be resting now," Granny says. She gathers some of the soup into her spoon and takes a gentle sip. "Hm. Needs a little more seasoning, I think. Why don't you go say hi, and I'll come by with the soup when it's ready?"
"Sounds good!" Lina says, running toward the guest bedroom in her socks, skidding to a halt as she turns the corner.
She'd been planning on saying hi, anyways. She always says hi. She wouldn't want him to get lonely.

“Dazai hasn’t said a word since the ability activated.”
Chuuya’s blood ran cold. He returned his gaze to the miniature Dazai, and felt his chest clench.
Even though he had to be terrified, Dazai sat stiffly on Naomi’s lap. His face showed no fear, just a blank stare that was all too familiar to Chuuya. He looked like a lifeless doll with no agency of its own.
“Dazai, do you know who I am?” Chuuya asked, keeping his voice even.
OR Chuuya gets hit by an ability, turning Dazai into a baby & leaving Chuuya to take care of him

He bounced on the balls of his feet, suddenly feeling uncertain, because if Olruggio was the one crying it’d be even harder to look at him.
