Richie looks up to see Eddie staring down at him, hands on his hips and fire in his eyes. There’s a thin sheen of sweat covering his brow, his neck, fuck even the slip of skin between the hem of his shirt and his waistband.
“Uh,” Richie says dumbly. “What?”
Eddie smirks at him. “You’ve been sitting here watching me dance for the past 3 songs. I’ve been waiting for you to get up and ask to dance with me.”

Summary
There’s a little voice in the back of Eddie’s mind, the one that always chides him, that says this is a stupid idea. He’s just prolonging the inevitable. Eventually, they’ll end up in New York and he’ll drop Richie off at the airport so he can go back to LA and Eddie will have to walk back into that house and return to the life he had before he remembered.
“What’d you say, Eds?” Richie asks. He leans across the plastic table with his voice pitched low like he’s whispering a secret.
Eddie wipes his hands on a spare napkin. They’re sticky and he should wash them before they go.
“Okay,” he says. Just saying it out loud makes his chest feel lighter. He nods slowly, a smile breaching his face. “Yeah, okay. Let’s do it.”

"What the fuck, Bev?" he asks in a harsh whisper. Beverly sighs, heaving Richie up higher against her as he begins to slip.
"I know. I know!" she says. "I just didn't know where else to take him! I can't bring him home like this. And you know my dad will freak if I bring a boy home. Especially like this."
Like this is drunker than Eddie's ever seen anyone, let alone Richie. He can smell the alcohol seeping out of Richie's pores, something sickly sweet punctuated by the lingering scent of cigarette smoke wafting off both of them. Eddie wrinkles his nose against it, his mouth twisting sourly the closer he nears the two of them.

Ziggy snorts at that, rolling his cigarette in the glass ashtray with the edge of his thumb. It’s not a laugh but Richie still feels a sense of pride at the reaction. He likes this guy’s smile. He wants to see more of it.
“And what about you, Trashmouth? You come out of the womb with unfunny one-liners?”
“So you did catch my act."

Summary
Loretta, the middle aged woman with the fading orange hair, is not the first therapist Terry has seen. No, he and John saw one, after the war, mandatory evaluation, and Terry saw another, right after 1987, when he’d gotten his ass into rehab, for real. Given up the cocaine, the prostitutes, the late night drives down Reseda Boulevard. Moved on.
Loretta was better than either of them. She understood him. She saw that his boundaries had been de-prioritized, that John leaving him after the war was a core wound that he had never been able to recover from psychologically. She said continuing to practice karate was a toxic form of self-soothing that inhibited the recovery process.
Or, Terry goes to therapy and Robby develops a soul-destroying, life-ending, unrequited crush on Mister LaRusso.
