Summary
The people of Hawkins were still alive, folding donated t-shirts into neat piles in the middle school gym, and passing out boxes of canned food to families in need, and smiling to each other as they said, hanging in there? Good, me too!
But then the ground fell and the fires started.
And then the Hawkins citizenry abandoned ship like they were time travelers aboard the goddamn Titanic.
And then the Hellfire Club and associated extended party members commandeered Loch Nora and turned it into a safe zone for the miniscule remaining population of Hawkins.
And then the dead people started showing back up.
Or: Eddie’s in love with Steve, but it doesn’t really matter because the world ended a few months ago and he’s been living on borrowed time ever since. Steve’s in love with Eddie, but he’s been through this before with a wild-eyed, steady-handed survivor who was better off without him, and doing it again might be enough to kill him this time.
Or or: The Party are vampire hunters in post-apocalyptic Hawkins, in a world where soulmates can't harm each other.

Steve comes to Eddie's trailer with a very personal problem. Eddie listens, compassionate and judgment-free, and proposes a solution. Completely selflessly, of course; he just wants to reassure Steve that there's nothing wrong with him, or more accurately, his dick. Except for the fact that Eddie's been pathetically yearning for his friend for months now, and is always greedy for whatever scraps of Steve Harrington he can get, even breaking his own heart in the process.
“I think… it’s all just about your state of mind, Stevie. Maybe you just need a different approach. Where there’s no stress, no pressure, just someone focusing on… you. No stakes, no expectations, no judgment on how long it takes for you to… get to a finish line, or even whether you enter the race at all, so to speak. Just let yourself feel good.”

Summary
Magic fucking phone? Either that or Eddie was losing it. Which was not out of the realm of possibility. He hadn't exactly been taking stellar care of himself. But. This felt…weird. Real. Like how he'd known, with Chrissy. Known that as insane as it was, he had seen what he had seen. And had immediately recognized that the world was complicated, and full of terrible, wonderful things.
Things like Steve Harrington believing he had been dating Eddie for two years.
Things like not being alone.
