The thought came to her again, one she’d been pushing aside for more than a year out of anger. That convincing herself it wasn’t her job to protect him anymore wasn’t entirely honest or fair. It had never actually been her responsibility, not when she’d hired herself as his assistant or when she’d been officially hired as Senior Assistant to the DCOS during Bartlet’s transition.
