Summary
Details of the Polin engagement party kept striking me, because it's obviously hard for Pen but Colin saw she was not calm and happy. A bit of dialogue borrowed from 3x05.
He was smiling too much, but it was hard not to celebrate. They were at their engagement party, and he couldn’t be accused of crowing over her in such a setting. He wasn’t playing it up at all. He wanted to offer his arm and introduce Penelope to her own family members, his family, all the servants, and carry on telling everyone whose path he crossed that Penelope had agreed to marry him. He hoped he had given her many reasons why, and that no one was questioning it. When his insecurity started to pick at the edge of that logic, Colin pushed it aside.
He wanted everything perfect. Nothing could be ruined for him, but Penelope deserved the best.
