“Maybe I should just go,” Ilya says and takes a long swig. He’s not looking at Shane. His stool squeaks on the floor as he scoots back.
“Ilya, please,” Shane pleads and Ilya’s eyes return to him. He stands up and offers a hand. “I just want to know.”
“Why the fuck does it matter?”
Suddenly, the beer is settling in Shane’s stomach, the alcohol steeping the blood in his veins. Maybe it’s that or maybe it’s a mild adrenaline, or maybe both. But he’s got a little courage.
“Because you’re so fucking hot and I need to know if you have a motive or if you’re just being nice!” Shane yells.
