Summary
(It didn’t surprise Dazai that Atsushi was willing to--that Atsushi wanted to, sometimes--manhandle him a little. It surprised him that Atsushi had found out his own spine was actually made of steel as quickly as he did, by pushing him up against the elevator wall after a nasty brush-up with a murderer at the end of a case. That Atsushi took unfailing care to not cause actual damage even as he wrapped his hands around Dazai’s wrists and held him down was so unsurprising it was almost boring, except it was difficult to find any part of Atsushi boring.)

“If…if Mori is dead then…?”
–then who’s in control of the port mafia?
The question is left unsaid and thankfully—with the way the mafioso shifts uncomfortably against Atsushi—Ango hears it all the same.
A deep inhale fills Atsushi’s ears, as if Ango is preparing himself for Atsushi’s reaction—or perhaps his own?—until a deep exhale surrounds the two of them along with an answer to Atsushi’s question.
“Dazai…has succeeded Mori.”
…No fucking way.
(Or: it takes one night for Dazai to take over the port mafia and it takes six years for Atsushi to discover the reason behind Dazai's decision to become the Port Mafia Boss.)

Summary
Being in love with your best friend is not easy, but Atsushi wouldn't have it any other way. He doesn't even remember when it started. There was no oh moment, no sudden realization. Only the warmth in his heart, far stronger than anything he's ever felt for anyone else, and he's listened to enough songs about love to know what it means.
