In typical Xie Lian manner, the poor omega turned and tripped right over a rolling cart stocked with supplies, sending it ricocheting off the hallway walls and into the lobby, leaving dents as it went. Xie Lian, on the other hand, lost his footing immediately and began tumbling towards the ground. As the dark tile floor grew closer to his face, he shut his eyes tightly, trying to cringe away from impending doom. Then, a secure hold fastened around his waist, keeping him aloft above the hard floor with his feet barely supporting him like a fawn finding its legs.
“Careful,” A deep voice called from above as he was righted back onto stable ground. Xie Lian turned just as the beaded curtain fell back over the very last studio space’s entrance. His heart gave a few rapid beats (which he blamed on adrenaline from the fall) as realization dawned that this was Hua Cheng’s studio. And the alpha who’d just saved him from a nasty spill certainly was not He Xuan.

Known well to cause disasters to whoever might fall near their territories or sight, lured by beautiful songs, views, and memories, swallowing the daring into the deepest parts of the sea, never to be seen again, exactly in the same way, this village is now a bare footprint on the maps. A sad point where only hard waters and storms await, where fish and treasure are now scarce.
Just like kindness is.
And kindness… kindness is not something Suguru has experienced much in his thirteen years of life.

The world ended on a Wednesday.
Satoru was in the middle of a class, the professor was explaining the mechanism of thermodynamics– the flow of energy, how heat dissipates and transforms within a closed system– he couldn’t remember what else the 75-year-old man was talking about. He knew everything anyway, and he was only in the class because of the mandatory attendance. The rate of words that came out of the old man’s mouth was too slow, it slowly became a lullaby to Satoru.
Instead of closing his eyes, he made sure they were glued to his phone. As the professor droned on about energy conservation and entropy, a sudden breaking news alert flickered across the screen. Satoru’s thumb hesitated mid-swipe. The headline read:
"Highly Infectious Virus detected in multiple Southeast Asia countries, infecting millions."

Which is fair enough, actually. Satoru isn’t sure what to make of him either.
When Satoru's piano teacher assigns him his most difficult challenge yet, he finds unlikely help from a cellist who challenges all the conventions of the world he thought he knew. Through Suguru, he’ll learn to feel the music in ways he never imagined possible — and maybe he’ll learn to feel a few other things, too. With accompanying art by 14th-lulullaby.

It is familiar, comforting, inviting. It urges him, frantic yet gentle as it pushes him towards the surface.
And then he sees him.
Bright blue eyes blink at him like a lighthouse in the night, cutting through the darkness and fog, guiding him back home.“How long are you gonna let yourself be used like this, Suguru?”
Those words feel like a punch to the gut. He starts thrashing and struggling against the black quicksand trapping him.
It hurts. It hurts so much. Still he keeps pushing. Because Satoru needs him.Finally, he is free.
He looks up and finds himself face to face with Satoru, who is still kneeling with his hands tied behind his back by the Prison Realm and is looking straight back at him.
All the defiance and aggression from earlier is gone from his eyes, replaced instead by a familiar softness.
Satoru smiles, weak and tired, but sincere nonetheless.“Welcome back, Suguru.”
