Summary
There is no silence in the forest. There will always be some sound; the wind rustling the leaves on the trees and foliage, the burbling of a stream some meters away, baby birds calling out to their mothers, and the creaking of an ancient oak swaying in the breeze. The sounds will never compare to the smells of the wood, there are no words humans can speak that capture its magnificence. Yet the essence of the forest is what is smelled and heard when near Katniss Everdeen.

She'd ran to try and stop him as he was on his way to enlist for the trial of Compound V. She had chosen now to do this. He looked at her, clothes sodden, hair sticking to her face and eyes wet with tears. He swallowed hard and shook his head at her.
"My father hates me. He can't stand me. This...maybe this will make him see me as something other than a disappointment."
But she shook her head and moved closer to him. "I don't care about him. I don't care what he thinks of you. I just want you to be safe. Please. Don't do this."
"Why do you care so much? Why are you-"
"-Because I love you." She blurted it out before she could stop. "I've loved you since I was thirteen and you first kissed me. I never stopped loving you. I never knew how to."
